Khmer culture, sports, tourism festival slated for November in Bac Lieu
(VNF) - The seventh Khmer Culture, Sports and Tourism Festival will be held in the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu from November 11th-19th, according to the organising board.

The event is expected to draw Khmer people from 12 southern localities, including Tay Ninh, Binh Phuoc, Vinh Long, Tra Vinh, An Giang, Kien Giang, Hau Giang, Soc Trang, Ca Mau, Can Tho, Ho Chi Minh City and Bac Lieu.
Themed “Southern Khmer community promote tradition and solidarity for national construction and defence,” the festival will include various cultural and art activities, including exhibitions of publications, traditional products and foods of Khmer people, along with trade fairs,https://vietnamtimes.thoidai.com.vn/stores/news_dataimages/vietnamfriendshipcomvn/092017/26/14/khmer-culture-sports-tourism-festival-slated-for-november-in-bac-lieu-02-.6184.jpg and tourism promotion.
The festival will feature a wide range of cultural and sport activities, such as exhibition on Khmer people’s traditional culture, traditional rituals of the Khmer ethnic people, performance of traditional costumes, boat racing and others.
According to Chairman of the Bac Lieu People’s Committee Duong Thanh Trung, also head of the steering committee for the festival, the festival is an opportunity to honor and highlight the culture of the Khmer ethnic group and strengthen solidarity and exchange amongst the Khmer community, thus preserving and promoting the cultural identities of the group.

It will contribute to building the cultural life, modernising rural areas, and developing tourism products in the province and the Mekong Delta region in general. (Source: vietnamtourism.com)
The sixth Khmer Culture, Sports and Tourism Festival was took place in November, 2014 in Hau Giang province.
There are about 1.3 million Khmer ethnic people in the south, accounting for 7 per cent of the region’s population./.
