The Standing Board of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Lai Chau Province has issued an open letter appealing for support to help people across the province recover from the impacts of natural disasters, flooding, and landslides.

In the letter, the Committee calls on organizations, businesses, and benefactors both within and outside the province to make voluntary contributions, according to their circumstances and capacity, in the form of cash, goods, supplies, essential necessities, or other appropriate forms of assistance.

The donations will be prioritized to provide support for families who have lost loved ones, those with missing or injured family members, households whose homes have collapsed or been severely damaged, and those forced to evacuate or relocate. The assistance will also help affected residents stabilize their living conditions and restore production and livelihoods as soon as possible.

The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Lai Chau Province commits to receiving, managing, allocating, and utilizing all donations for their intended purposes, ensuring they reach the right beneficiaries in a timely, transparent, accountable, and lawful manner.

According to the letter, since early July 2026, Lai Chau Province has been repeatedly struck by heavy rainfall, flash floods, torrential floods, and landslides, resulting in particularly severe damage. As of 5:00 p.m. on July 18, the disasters had claimed five lives, left four people missing, and injured nine others. During the latest flooding from July 15 to 18 alone, 18 houses were completely destroyed, 11 sustained more than 70% damage, dozens of others were affected, and hundreds of households were evacuated or remain in areas at high risk of landslides.

More than 400 hectares of rice fields and other crops, along with numerous fish ponds, livestock, and essential household assets, were damaged. Many roads, irrigation works, domestic water supply systems, and electricity infrastructure were also affected by landslides and damage, causing transportation disruptions and seriously impacting local people's lives and production activities.

Preliminary estimates place the total damage at more than VND 190 billion, including over VND 120 billion in Muong Than Commune alone. Authorities are continuing to verify and update the figures.

Heavy rainfall continues in some areas, while water levels in rivers and streams remain high. Many hillsides have become saturated, leaving a significant risk of further flash floods, torrential floods, and landslides. Relevant authorities are urgently searching for missing persons, evacuating residents, providing emergency relief, and carrying out recovery efforts. However, substantial support is still needed to assist affected families, provide safe accommodation, stabilize livelihoods, and restore income-generating activities.
