He emphasized that, up to now, ASEAN has remained intact as it has become one of the most important regional organizations in the world today. It shows in the spirit of the annual ASEAN Day on August 8.
Although ASEAN is a dynamic region, problems cannot be avoided, said the Malaysia diplomat. Even so, the most important thing is that all members of the bloc remain steadfast in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
In his speech, Foreign Minister Zambry also emphasized the region's green growth, which has been identified as a strategy to implement the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and addressed climate change, among other environmental challenges to support global peace, security, prosperity and sustainable development, especially in terms of the circular economy.
In this context, ASEAN should ensure that its growth goals revolve around the principles of sustainability, inclusivity and shared prosperity, said Zambry. The growth of ASEAN is not only a story of economic success but also a story of cultural preservation, environmental protection and social justice.
