On January 15th, the Ministry of Information and Communications held a meeting to mark the 70th anniversary of the day Uncle Ho visited the Bo Ho (Sword Lake) Central Post Office (January 17th, 1946 – January 17th, 2016).

President Ho Chi Minh visits the Bo Ho Central Post Office on January 17th, 1946.

On January 17th, 1946, when the country entered the initial period of constructing and protecting the young revolutionary authority, President Ho Chi Minh visited the Bo Ho Central Post Office, now the headquarters of the Hanoi Post Office, at No. 75 Dinh Tien Hoang Street, Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi. He expressed his care for the information and communications sector.

Addressing the meeting, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Bac Son stressed that the sector had to focus on realising its tasks to contribute to the national industrialization and modernization.

He noted the target of developing post, telecommunications and information and technology industry, considering it a spearhead technical and economic sector which contributes a large and sustainable proportion of national GDP.

He also mentioned the development of information and technology human resources, satisfying the demand for domestic market and for export, considering it a decisive factor in the success of the sector’s development.

Stressing the need to increase the application of information and technology in Party and State agencies, in enterprises and the whole society, he urged the sector to successfully re-structure the post and telecommunications, and develop broad-band telecommunications infrastructure reaching villages across the country./.
