According to statistics released by the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, a total of 102,243 students were admitted to public high schools in the recent entrance examination for the 2026-2027 academic year, accounting for more than 80% of all candidates who took the exam.

The total number of admission offers reached 109,684, as many students were simultaneously admitted through different admission choices.

Notably, one student was admitted to as many as five choices, including one regular public high school option and four specialized school or French bilingual program options.

The high admission rate to public high schools reflects the effectiveness of Hanoi’s efforts to expand enrollment capacity and increase the number of available school places. These measures have helped ease competitive pressure amid a sharp rise in the number of candidates this year, significantly improving students’ opportunities to study at public schools.

In recent years, the city has continuously invested in building new schools, upgrading facilities, and adding classrooms in areas experiencing rapid population growth.

The review of educational demand and the allocation of enrollment quotas based on actual needs have also contributed to better meeting the expectations of students and parents. In addition, the organization of the examination has continued to be assessed as safe, rigorous, and convenient for candidates.

Beyond expanding the public school system, Hanoi has consistently pursued the policy of ensuring educational opportunities for 100% of students graduating from lower secondary school.

Rather than focusing solely on public high schools, an increasing number of families are proactively choosing educational pathways that align with students’ abilities, strengths, and future development goals.

With the diversity of the education system, students may choose not only public high schools but also private schools, vocational education and continuing education centers, or vocational training institutions.

For the 2026-2027 academic year, private high schools have been allocated more than 34,000 enrollment places. Many of these schools have invested in modern facilities and diverse educational programs, including enhanced foreign language classes, high-quality programs, and a wide range of experiential learning activities.

Admission methods at private schools are also flexible and tailored to the needs of families and students, providing additional options and reducing examination pressure.

Meanwhile, the city’s network of 29 vocational education and continuing education centers has been allocated nearly 12,000 enrollment places. Diplomas awarded under the continuing education program hold the same value as upper secondary school diplomas issued within the general education system.

Upon completing their studies, students may still apply for admission to universities and colleges, provided they meet the prescribed requirements.
