	Vietnam Intensifies Monitoring Drug Use Crimes at Private Rental Accommodations

The destroyed narcotics included heroin, opium, ketamine, cannabis, and methamphetamine (crystal meth), all of which had been seized across the country. The destruction ceremonies were held simultaneously in the three cities of Yangon, Mandalay, and Taunggyi, the capital of Shan State.

According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Myanmar is currently the world's largest producer of opium and the biggest supplier of methamphetamine in Southeast Asia. Experts say the country's prolonged conflict has created favorable conditions for illicit economic activities, including drug production, illegal mining, and online scam operations.

Earlier, in January 2026, Myanmar authorities announced the dismantling of three large-scale drug manufacturing facilities in Shan State near the Chinese border. According to officials, the facilities had the capacity to produce an amount of methamphetamine equivalent to roughly one-third of the total quantity of the drug seized nationwide during the previous year.
