Students participated in a poster competition on gender equality and presented their views on the role of girls in the future.

The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), in partnership with the Department of Education and Training of Vinh Long province, organized an event to commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child (October 11), World Teachers' Day (October 5), and the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and the Beijing Platform for Action (1995-2025).

Aligned with the global theme "Girls lead the future", the event featured exhibition activities, interactive games, and poster design competitions, offering students a platform to voice their perspectives and roles in shaping the future, their families, and society.

Students also took part in the "Beijing+30 Bus Tour" organized by UN Women, which highlighted Vietnam's progress in gender equality over the past 30 years of implementing the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. This pivotal document has been ratified and actively executed by 189 countries, including Vietnam.

The event included a live dialogue with prominent female figures in education, sports, and science. Truong Thanh Nhuan, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Vinh Long, discussed the successes and challenges in promoting equal education for girls in the region. Joining the dialogue was Professor Dang Thi Phuong Thao, a lecturer at the University of Natural Sciences - Ho Chi Minh City National University, and the only female professor in biology in 2023, who received a national scholarship from L'Oreal and UNESCO for her contributions to women's development in science; and athlete Nguyen Thi Anh Vien, a former swimmer and sports coach, known for her remarkable achievements and as a symbol of determination and confidence.

Caroline Nyamayemombe, the UN Women Representative in Viet Nam, highlighted the rapid digital revolution and the emergence of green jobs, both globally and in Viet Nam, as opportunities that must not be overlooked. She stressed the importance of STEM education.

"We must ensure that all children, especially girls, acquire the necessary skills for success. Excluding girls from the digital and green economy risks marginalizing half of the population in the future's competitive job market," she said.
