A launch event for the project "Accelerating Women's Green Business Models for Sustainable Agriculture in Vietnam" (We4Ag) was recently organized by the Department of Science and Technology, in collaboration with CARE International in Vietnam and the MEVI SIB Joint Stock Company.

Funded by the European Union, the project is implemented in Tuyen Quang and Cao Bang through February 2028. It aims to enhance the capacity and create conditions for women in agricultural production and business to develop in a green, sustainable, and digitally-enabled way.

In northern mountainous provinces like Ha Giang (formerly), and now Tuyen Quang and Cao Bang, agriculture remains the primary livelihood for most residents, especially ethnic minority women. However, agricultural production in this region faces numerous challenges such as limited production techniques and small scale, climate change and resource degradation, lack of market access and technology application, as well as barriers for women and their role in agriculture.

The We4Ag project will focus on enhancing sustainable agricultural production capacity for 10,000 women through in-person and online training on green, circular, organic, and low-emission farming methods, with 1,500 participants receiving MEVI certificates. It also will improve products processing knowledge for 4,000 women through in-person and online classes, helping reduce waste in production and processing while increasing the value of agricultural products.

On the other hand, the We4Ag project is going to expand market access opportunities for 1,000 women by supporting the development of online storefronts and connecting women with agricultural distribution channels both within and beyond their provinces.

Nong Thanh Than, Deputy Director of the Cao Bang Department of Science and Technology, stated, “WE4Ag is a prime example of international cooperation in applying science, technology, and digital transformation to enhance the role of women within the green agricultural value chain. The project not only provides financial and technical resources but also opens up a new development direction, creating a knowledge and technology platform for women in Cao Bang to take ownership of green production and business models, contributing to reducing emissions, protecting the environment, developing family economies, and building a sustainable, eco-friendly agriculture."

According to Nguyen Thi Thu, Director of MEVI SIB, the project's implementing unit believes that digital technology is not just a tool but a key for rural women to access knowledge, innovate products, and connect to markets. Within the We4Ag project, she added, MEVI will collaborate to develop user-friendly online training platforms, organize digital transformation workshops, and support women in building online sales systems—contributing to a green, modern, and women-led agricultural ecosystem

Meanwhile, Vuong Thai Nga, Program Director, representing CARE International in Vietnam, shared that the We4Ag project is the next step in their efforts to accompany rural women, helping them become a pioneering force in Vietnam's green agricultural transition. CARE believe that enhancing women's economic empowerment is one of the core solutions for building sustainable communities that are resilient to climate change.
