Northern regions brace for impact of cold spell start to 2020
The first two months of 2020 are poised to bring between three to five cold spells to the north of Vietnam, with each cold period lasting for up to five days at a time.

A number of severe cold spells are expected to hit the north of Vietnam throughout January and February, 2020, with mountainous areas being warned of the impact of ice and frost which are expected to bring disruption to local people’s daily lives.According a weather forecast issued by the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting on December 28, these cold spells are set to see temperatures plummet, whilst simultaneously bringing strong wind, rain, and resulting in high levels of humidity.
Despite the predictions of cold weather, temperatures are still expected to be between 0.5 degrees Celcius and 1.5 degrees Celcius above the same period during previous years.
Rainfall during January is forecast to be between 20mm and 30mm on average, marginally higher than in previous years.
Moreover, the period between February and June is expected to see several spells of heavy showers and thunderstorms hit many regions throughout the country./.
