Pakistan Praises Viet Nam’s Development Achievements

This was the assessment and remarks shared by Pakistani leaders at a ceremony marking the 81st anniversary of Viet Nam’s National Day on September 2, held at the premises of the Embassy of Viet Nam in Islamabad.

The event was attended by Maulana Nasim Ali Shah, a Member of the National Assembly of Pakistan; the Director General of the East Asia-Pacific Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; representatives of the Ministry of Commerce; the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps; ambassadors and chargé d’affaires of ASEAN countries, China, Japan, Cuba, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and Poland; as well as numerous representatives of the diplomatic corps, Vietnamese friends and the Vietnamese community in Islamabad.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador of Viet Nam to Pakistan Pham Anh Tuan underscored the profound significance of National Day on September 2 and highlighted Viet Nam’s outstanding development achievements over the past 81 years. He emphasized the success of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, which set out strategies and a roadmap for Viet Nam to successfully achieve its two centenary goals: becoming a developing country with modern industry and upper-middle income status by 2030, and a developed, high-income country by 2045.

Expressing his delight at the strong development of Viet Nam-Pakistan bilateral relations over more than five decades, Ambassador Pham Anh Tuan said that notable achievements in the economic and cultural fields have laid a solid foundation for the sustainable development of Viet Nam-Pakistan relations. He affirmed that Viet Nam always attaches importance to and wishes to further deepen ties between the two countries for the common interests of their peoples, as well as for peace and development in the region.

Congratulating Viet Nam on the 81st anniversary of its National Day and expressing admiration for the country’s remarkable development achievements across various fields, Pakistani leaders highlighted several lessons from Viet Nam’s experience. These include strategic and visionary leadership; integration into the global economy; the transformation from purely agricultural production to high-tech agriculture; investment facilitation and attraction; a strong focus on investing in future generations; and the persistent, continuous and consistent implementation of the Doi Moi strategy based on a national vision.

Member of the National Assembly Maulana Nasim Ali Shah said: “Pakistan does not necessarily need to copy Viet Nam’s development model, but should continue learning from Viet Nam and selectively draw on its valuable experiences in the process of economic transformation.”

Earlier, on September 2, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari posted a congratulatory message on his official X account to General Secretary and President To Lam, the Government and people of Viet Nam on the occasion of the 81st anniversary of Viet Nam’s National Day. In his message, the President emphasized: “Since gaining independence in 1945, Viet Nam has overcome numerous challenges and made remarkable progress in the political, economic and social spheres.” He affirmed: “Pakistan has always valued its strong friendship with Viet Nam and remains committed to further strengthening bilateral cooperation to realize its full potential for the mutual benefit of the two peoples.”

President Zardari also noted that the two countries are looking forward to marking the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2027. On this occasion, the President cordially invited General Secretary and President To Lam to visit Pakistan to commemorate this important historic milestone and further strengthen the friendship between the two countries.

At the ceremony, held in a warm and friendly atmosphere, the Embassy also arranged an exhibition showcasing Vietnamese culture and cuisine. Iconic Vietnamese dishes such as fried spring rolls, pho and battered fish, prepared by the Embassy’s spouses themselves, left a lasting impression on the guests.
