Speaking at the meeting, Party General Secretary and State President To Lam expressed his pleasure at receiving Kusum Jain, President of the India-Vietnam Friendship Association, and other delegates. He was touched that the delegation had traveled a long distance to New Delhi for the cordial meeting, bringing gifts symbolizing the warm affection of the Indian people.

The Party General Secretary and State President thanked members of the India-Vietnam Friendship Association for contributing “bricks” to build the house of Vietnam-India solidarity. The two countries share a traditional friendship and deep bond, a precious asset founded by President Ho Chi Minh and Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, and continuously nurtured by generations of leaders and people of both nations.

Vietnam always remembers the invaluable support and assistance of the Indian people during its past struggle for independence as well as in the country’s current process of national construction and development.

The Party General Secretary and State President reaffirmed that Vietnam’s consistent policy is to attach importance to its traditional friendship with India.

Bilateral relations have continued to grow strongly in recent years, especially after the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership 10 years ago. In particular, people-to-people relations between the two countries have continued to flourish, contributing positively to enhancing mutual understanding and trust.

On behalf of the India-Vietnam Friendship Association, Kusum Jain welcomed Party General Secretary and State President To Lam and the high-level Vietnamese delegation on their visit to India.

The President of the India-Vietnam Friendship Association expressed admiration for Vietnam’s achievements after 40 years of Doi Moi (Renewal) as well as for the country’s current strategic development policies, expressing confidence in Vietnam’s breakthrough development in the coming period.

Kusum Jain also affirmed her admiration for the determination of the Communist Party of Vietnam in combating corruption, wastefulness, and negative practices. The achieved results, she said, have contributed to purifying the apparatus and building a government that serves the people.

At the meeting, members of the India-Vietnam Friendship Association delegation shared their affection for Vietnam and its people, as well as their respect for President Ho Chi Minh, the brilliant leader of the Vietnamese nation. They also affirmed their trust in and support for the strategic policies currently being implemented by Vietnam.

The delegates proposed strengthening cultural exchanges and dialogue between the peoples of the two countries. They also expressed a desire to cooperate in publishing books about President Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam and its people, and Vietnam’s Doi Moi process over the past 40 years as well as in the years ahead; opening Vietnamese language classes in Kolkata taught by Vietnamese teachers; and translating literary works from Vietnamese into Hindi and from Hindi into Vietnamese.

The Party General Secretary and State President acknowledged and highly appreciated the role of people-to-people diplomacy and the positive contributions made by Indian people’s organizations, including the India-Vietnam Friendship Association. He proposed that the Association continue to promote and further strengthen people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, especially in the fields of culture, education, Buddhism, innovation, and local-level cooperation.

The formation of the Indian community in Vietnam and the Vietnamese community in India has also contributed to strengthening the increasingly close relationship between the two countries.

The Party General Secretary and State President stated that during this visit, leaders of both sides discussed measures to create breakthroughs in bilateral cooperation, commensurate with the potential and expectations of the peoples of the two countries.

Party General Secretary and State President To Lam expressed support for the proposals and recommendations of the India-Vietnam Friendship Association, affirming his confidence that the Association, together with the Vietnam-India Friendship Association, will continue to play a core role in spreading positive inspiration and momentum to further promote friendship, connectivity, and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
