Party leader receives Japanese Emperor and Empress

(VNF) - Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong hosted a reception on March 3 for the Japanese Emperor and Empress, who are on a week-long State-level visit to Vietnam.

The Party General Secretary stated that the visit, which is the first ever made by a Japanese Emperor to Vietnam, is a significant historical event marking a new chapter in diplomatic relations as well as friendship between the two countries.

He affirmed that Vietnam highly treasures the ties with Japan and wishes to further strengthen the friendship.

General Secretary Trong took the occasion to thank Japan for giving Vietnam valuable assistance in social-economic development and national construction over the past years.

Emperor Akihito, for his part, recalled his positive impressions of the meetings with Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong when he visited Japan in 2008 and 2015. He also thanked the Party General Secretary and other leaders and the people of Vietnam for the respectful and warm welcome.

During the meeting, the two sides participated in an in-depth discussion about cultures and cultural exchange activities between Vietnam and Japan, highlighting the similaries the two cultures share.

Emperor Akihito also expressed deep sympathy for Vietnam’s great losses caused by wars in the past, noting that he is impressed by the great achievements of the South East Asian nation in terms of country reformation and reconstruction.

In addition, the Emperor spoke highly of Vietnam’s contribution to world peace and wished that people of the two countries would keep joining hands in this endeavour.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Emperor Akihito shared the view that the Vietnam-Japan friendship and cooperation is now at its peak in history, and hoped that the visit of the Emperor and Empress will help promote the bilateral ties across many fields./.
