Photos: Celebrating A Special Mid-Autumn Festival With Unique Miniature Handicrafts

A full moon party with a variety of dishes like moon cake, five-fruit tray with lanterns and other colorful toys are indispensable parts of a Mid-Autumn festival. A souvenir shop in Hanoi’s Dong Da District has created a unique full-moon party with a miniature version of traditional dishes and toys.

One of the members said toys such as the star lanterns, revolving lanterns, tiny unicorn heads are like special gifts from adults to look back at their childhood a remember still celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival with loved, even during a devastating pandemic.
Although the materials to make these miniature toys are quite environmentally-friendly and easy to find such as bamboo sticks, colored paper, clay, it takes quite a lot of time to create the products. For example, to be able to finalize a chicken lantern like this, it takes the artisans six hours to make. Other items may take longer to complete.

“It takes three days to complete a miniature grapefruit in the five-fruit tray,” a member of Veene told VTC News.

On the social distancing period, artisans bring materials collected at home to the studio to make the miniature.
Each miniature item is then combined in a set and sold online to customers.

A set of Mid-Autumn Festival gifts includes six optional items. The price is not cheap: about VND600,000 per set because the handmade item takes a lot of efforts to make.
Nguyen Huu Thanh, 33 years old, living in Cau Giay District said: "I am very fascinated with tiny items, especially Veene's tea set. I love it so much. I ordered the whole set and am eagerly waiting to own them."
Miniature handicrafts have become a trend in Vietnam in recent years, especially during the pandemic. A lot of people have created their favotire items with mini sizes for fun and collection.
