In order to support imports and exports between businesses and the Iranian market, contributing to strengthening the friendship between the two countries, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (Asia-Africa Market Department) organized a forum to promote the export of goods to Iran from May 4 to 10, 2023 in the city of Tehran, Iran.

The trade delegation included representatives of the Asia-Africa Market Department, Vietnam Pharmaceutical Companies Association and 14 enterprises operating in the fields of pharmaceuticals, building materials, agricultural products (rice, pepper, cashew nuts, cinnamon), dried fruit, coffee, confectionery, noodles and tea.

The team conducted market research and surveys.

They worked with Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA), Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade, Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPO), Iranian Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists and some key import companies.

They also organized a forum to promote exports to Iran, participated in Iran EXPO 2023 and some other activities.

At the meeting, the two countries discussed trade and investment policies, cooperation fields, and potential import and export products. They share experiences in trade promotion, export, connect import and export partners, introduce opportunities for investment cooperation and joint venture, technology transfer in pharmaceuticals, medical equipment and vaccine.

The two sides also agreed to exchange a list of reputable import and export enterprises, the need to diversify import and export goods. They encourage businesses on both sides to be more proactive in contacting, exchanging information, and looking for trading opportunities.

The trade delegation also had a meeting with a rice import business, the Iranian Rice Import-Export and Supply Association (IRESIA). Mohammad Mokhtariani, head of IRESIA said, currently, 50% of Iran's rice imports are from India, 35% from Pakistan, 5% from Thailand, and the remaining 10% from some other countries, including Vietnam.

Previously, Iran used to import rice from Vietnam. Currently, Iran is looking forward to the resumption of rice imports from Vietnam, firstly some types of rice such as Thai homali, jasmine, ST24.

The representative of IRESIA also said that Iran wants to find a guaranteed rice source from other countries, including Vietnam. This is to diversify sources of imports and reduce dependence on supply from the Indian market.

During the meeting, the Asia-Africa Market Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) coordinated with Iran to organize a forum to promote the export of goods between businesses of the two countries. The event attracted a large number of Iranian businesses operating in many fields. They met and exchanged opportunities for direct cooperation with Vietnamese businesses.

After the opening session, businesses had direct B2B contact. Iranian enterprises wish to promote cooperation in the pharmaceutical field with enterprises in Vietnam.

They also expressed interest in a variety of agricultural products, especially rice, pepper, cashews, cinnamon, dried fruit, fresh coconut, and dragonfruit, on display at the forum. A number of businesses discussed prices, quality standards and other issues to seek contract signing.

Also during their stay in Iran, the trade delegation visited, and worked with Iranian and international businesses at the Iran EXPO 2023 - one of the largest multi-industry exhibitions in Iran.

After introducing products at the forum, at the Iran Expo, a number of Vietnamese enterprises began to exchange and discuss contracts with Iranian partners.

The business trip of the trade delegation in Iran was successfully organized. It is a meaningful activity to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Iran in 2023.
