(VNF) - Tam Thanh village has become a new tourist attraction in Quang Nam Province with bright and colorful giant mutual paintings.

Located in Vietnam’s central province of Quang Nam, Tam Thanh used to be a poor fishing village, like other hundred thousand villages across the country. However, an art project with the participating of artists from both Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) has changed the image of Tam Thanh completely.

From June 7th-28th, the Korea Foundation (KF) conducted its “Art for a Better Community” program with the support of the United Nations Human Settlements Development Programme (UN-Habitat) in Vietnam, which uses Korea’s mural villages as a model to facilitate Korea-Vietnam art exchange, in the small fishing village of Tam Thanh.

Five mural artists of RoK, along with 12 youth volunteers each from Korea and Vietnam, and village residents and art teachers teamed up to clean up the town, cover walls with pastel tones, and then paint the walls with images of the local residents and scenery.

After three weeks of painting in summer heat that topped 35˚C, over 70 mural paintings reflecting the lives of local people, were beautifully finished on the walls of these houses.

Walls and doors are painted with bright colors and cute images. The painting themes are varied from familiar cartoon characters, such as genie from "Aladdin and the lamp"; nature, such as sea and its creatures; to daily activities of local people.

Tam Thanh is the first mural village in Vietnam while in RoK, the culture of mural painting on buildings and villages has become very popular.

By providing a space of arts and culture, Lee Hyuk, RoK Ambassador to Vietnam hoped that the project will help to develop the local tourism and economy.

According to Nguyen Minh Nam, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, an embankment road from central Tam Ky City to Tam Thanh Village has also been rebuilt and upgraded to contribute to the development of the local eco-cultural tourism./.
