State President To Lam Holds Meeting with Outgoing Swedish Ambassador Ann Mawe

State President To Lam affirmed that the cooperative relationship between the two countries has a long tradition, adding that Sweden is one of the first European countries to establish relations with Vietnam. He highly appreciated the help and support of the Royal Family, the Government and the people of Sweden during the previous period of struggle for national independence, as well as the current process of building and developing the country.

Through the Ambassador, the President also thanked the King of Sweden for sending a congratulatory message on the occasion of him being elected President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
In response, Ambassador Ann Mawe expressed her honor that the two countries celebrated the 55th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations while she was working in her term. Over the years, the two sides have increased the exchange of high-level delegations and all levels, promoting people-to-people exchanges, especially the bilateral trade turnover has increased gradually each year, said Ann Mawe.
The foreign diplomat emphasized that over the past half century, the relationship between the two countries has been increasingly consolidated and expanded. Sweden is one of Vietnam's 10 largest partners in the European Union (EU). There are currently many large Swedish businesses investing in Vietnam, many more want to explore new investment and business opportunities in different fields. As one of the leading European countries in innovation and sustainable development, Sweden is eager to cooperate with Vietnam in responding to climate change and green transformation, she added.

State President To Lam was pleased to see the Vietnam-Sweden cooperation developed during Ambassador Ann Mawe's term.. Activities in many fields such as politics, economics, trade and investment are carried out successfully.
He proposed that the two countries will continue to strengthen bilateral and multilateral political and diplomatic cooperation activities, including the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially in 2024 when the two countries celebrate 55 years of establishing diplomatic relations.
Also, To Lam highly appreciated Sweden as one of the early partners to ratify the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA). He believes that, after being ratified and implemented, EVIPA will bring new momentum to promote investment relations between the two sides and create favorable conditions for EU and Swedish businesses investing and doing business in Vietnam.
The host emphasized that Swedish businesses are much welcomed to increase investment in Vietnam, especially in sectors like infrastructure, transportation, green transformation, green technology, renewable energy, urban planning, and sustainable development.... Also, the two sides should promote people-to-people exchanges through cooperative activities in education, culture-arts, sports, tourism, and cooperation between localities. They will contribute to enhance mutual understanding, strengthen the friendship and cooperative relationship between the two countries.
State President To Lam asked that Ambassador Ann Mawe will always be a close friend and continue to foster friendly relationships and good cooperation between Vietnam and Sweden.
The Swedish diplomat thanked the State President and Vietnamese authorities for supporting the Ambassador in completing his duties, thereby contributing to promoting cooperation between the two countries in many fields.
