Married and a mother of three at a very young age, Hoa, a young woman from Lai Chau, once thought her life would only revolve around farm work and taking care of her family. However, through participating in community activities supported by Plan, Hoa realized: “Women, if given the chance to learn and believe in themselves, can completely change their future.”

With that mindset, Hoa began learning actively and, together with her husband, started a small business model to improve their income. Despite facing many challenges, she never gave up. Through daily perseverance, she gradually proved that young women and youth in mountainous areas can take control of their lives, ensure their children’s education, and build a happy and fulfilling family.

Hoa’s story spreads a powerful message: “Lai Chau youth - study well, thrive, and say no to early marriage.”

During the series of events, children in Lai Chau participated in creative contests, games, and short plays on children’s rights, online safety, and adolescent reproductive health. Notably, girls were empowered to take on leadership roles - representing school management boards to deliver opening speeches and host programs - demonstrating their confidence and leadership skills.

The activities took place under the framework of two projects: “Gender Equality and Empowerment for Ethnic Minority Women and Girls in Lai Chau,” funded by the Belgian Development Cooperation (DGD - Brussels) and Plan International Belgium; and “Happy to Go to School,” funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan through Plan International Japan.

Plan International Vietnam will continue its efforts so that every girl has the opportunity to learn, express her voice, and join her community in building a safe, equal, and sustainable future.
