Taekwondo: Vietnam totally lost race to Olympics 2016

(VNF) - All three Taekwondo players of Vietnam failed to get a ticket at the upcoming Olympics 2016 during the qualifying round of Asia hosted by the Philippines on April 17th.

The hope for Vietnam came to Ha Thi Nguyen, Nguyen Van Duy and Phan Trung Duc, after the lost of Truong Thi Kim Tuyen (in the women’s under 49kg) on April 16th.

In the women’s under 67kg event, the Hanoi-origin player Ha Thi Nguyen, 26, defeated her Indian rival 7-0 in the quarter-final game. She entered the semi-final game to compete with Kazakhstani rival Cansel DENIZ, 25. The official time ended 0-0 with lots of heartbreaking and struggling moments. In the additional round, Cansel DENIZ scored a “golden point” to finalize the game, earning a berth at the upcoming Olympics in Brazil. Vietnamese player bagged the bronzed medal.

Meanwhile, in the men’s 68kg event, Phan Trung Duc , 22, failed in the 1/16 qualifying round after losing 2-0 to SILA-ON.Peerathep, also 22, from Thailand.

In the men’s 58kg event, Nguyen Van Duy, 21, from Ho Chi Minh city were also lost 5-6 with a “golden point” in the additional round to Hamad Mabrouk S ALMABROUK from Saudi Arabia in the 1/16 qualifying round.

In the final, Vietnam’s Taekwondo totally lost race to Olympics 2016 as the new regulation allowing only two players in the final game to travel to Brazil./.
