The listing initiates the formal process that could lead to the temple’s full recognition as a World Heritage Site.

Thai Culture Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra confirmed that Thailand’s delegation to the World Heritage Committee meeting in Paris received the decision during the latest session.

The pagoda, situated along the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, stands as one of the country’s most iconic architectural landmarks, holding profound cultural and historical significance.

The Ministry of Culture has tasked the Fine Arts Department with preparing the nomination dossier and overseeing conservation and site management in line with international standards. These preparations are necessary for advancing to the next stage of the UNESCO nomination process.

Work will include detailed documentation, restoration planning, and long-term preservation strategies to ensure the site’s readiness for future review and evaluation.

The addition of Wat Arun’s central pagoda to the tentative list highlights international recognition of Thailand’s cultural identity and the country’s ongoing efforts to safeguard its national heritage for future generations.
