The uniqueness of Vietnamese upland ethnic women’s costumes
Lao Cai is one of the few mountainous provinces in Vietnam that is home to a large number of culture-rich ethnic minorities. Among the many distinctive cultural features, the beauty of the brocade of traditional costumes has drawn great attention from not only Vietnamese visitors but also foreign ones alike.
The most intricate costumes, which are manually-made and often take months to complete, belong to the H'mong, Dao, Pa Di and Tu Di groups. The daily outfits are made from linen dyed in indigo. The outfits of Tay, Nung, and La Chi groups have fewer patterns and details.
