In her opening speech, the Vietnamese Consul General in Fukuoka, Vu Chi Mai, said: “Vietnamese is not only a language, but the soul of the nation, a bridge connecting generations of Vietnamese people living abroad with their homeland. The Network initiative came from the desire to create a common platform where teachers and communities across places can exchange, support each other and together keep the Vietnamese language alive.”
She emphasized that the Consulate General will continue to serve as a bridge in connecting functional agencies with the community, promoting teacher training and coaching, applying digital technology in teaching and spreading the network's image. “When there is consensus from domestic agencies to overseas citizens, the Vietnamese language will not only be taught and learned in small classes, but also through large, sustainable movement,” she said.

According to Nguyen Duy Anh, Chairman of the Vietnamese Association in Fukuoka, Secretary General of the Network, the network was built with three core goals, including Preserving and developing the Vietnamese language as an unwavering symbol of national identity; Connecting the global Vietnamese community, arousing pride and solidarity; Promoting the image of a modern, friendly, and traditional Vietnam to the world.
The network will operate under a professional framework comprising a General Coordinating Board, an Advisory Board, specialized Boards, and a national focal point system. Leveraging digital platforms, it adopts a "borderless" model, offering online classes, developing an electronic repository of learning resources, hosting international seminars, and connecting educators across five continents.
Ngo Thu Huong, Head of the Department of Culture and Vietnamese Language at the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasized that preserving the Vietnamese language remains a core mission, closely tied to national unity efforts. She described the launch of the Global Network for Teaching Vietnamese Language and Vietnamese Culture as a timely initiative that responds to community needs and aligns with the State’s strategic direction.
“We appreciate the initiative of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Fukuoka, the support of experts, associations, and especially the dedication of hundreds of overseas Vietnamese teachers. The Committee will continue to closely coordinate and create favorable conditions for the Network to develop sustainably, making practical contributions to the preservation of Vietnamese cultural identity.”
A key highlight of the event was the introduction of the book series Learning Vietnamese with Fun, compiled by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Thuyet and a team of authors. The series is recognized as a valuable and engaging resource, designed to make Vietnamese language learning more appealing and dynamic for overseas children. Consul General Vu Chi Mai commended the authors for their intellectual commitment and affirmed that the series will serve as a vital foundation for teaching activities within the network.
