Earlier, while fishing in the Truong Sa sea area, fisherman Nguyen Van Lai (born in 1969, residing in Binh Son Commune, Quang Ngai Province, crew member of fishing vessel QNg 90640 TS) suddenly experienced symptoms of fatigue, numbness and weakness on the right side of his body, difficulty in speaking, and a severe headache.
At approximately 11:00 am, he was brought to the Truong Sa Island infirmary for emergency care. Upon arrival, he was conscious and able to communicate, but showed signs of right-side paralysis, slurred speech, facial asymmetry, and elevated blood pressure at 161/90 mmHg. After examination and diagnosis, doctors confirmed he had suffered a stroke due to cerebral infarction, requiring close monitoring to distinguish it from cerebral hemorrhage.

Medical personnel on the island promptly administered intravenous fluids, carried out neuroprotective measures, prevented cerebral edema, and stabilized his blood pressure. They conducted essential paraclinical tests, namely electrocardiogram, X-ray, and laboratory diagnostics, and consulted online with Military Hospital 175 to determine an appropriate treatment plan.
According to initial assessments, the patient’s condition is serious, with a high risk of stroke progression and cerebral edema. The military medical team on Truong Sa Island continues to closely monitor his consciousness, vital signs, and hemodynamic status, while maintaining communication with higher-level authorities for further treatment guidance.
The timely and professional response to fisherman Nguyen Van Lai’s emergency once again underscores the deep sense of responsibility, compassion, and solidarity shown by the officers and soldiers stationed on Truong Sa Island toward offshore fishermen, contributing meaningfully to the protection of the Fatherland’s sacred sovereignty.
