On June 7, in Brussels, the Kingdom of Belgium, the conference "The emerging potential of the Vietnamese community in the EU to promote Vietnam-EU cooperation" was co-organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, the Embassy of Vietnam in Belgium and the Vietnamese Delegation to the European Union (EU).

Vietnam’s 50-year Reunification Celebration Garners Argentine Press’s Attention

The event is within the framework of a series of activities to promote Vietnam's relations with the EU on the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two sides (1990-2025).

The content of the program includes many presentations and discussions, exchange of cooperation agreement documents and bilateral meetings between Vietnamese organizations and associations in Europe and delegations of ministries, sectors and localities from Vietnam.

Nearly 500 delegates attended, including 13 domestic delegations led by leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Science and Technology, leaders of Ho Chi Minh City, the provinces of Bac Lieu, Phu Yen, Quang Binh, Quang Ninh, Vinh Long, Hue city, and Ninh Binh. There are representatives from 6 Embassies and 36 delegations of Vietnamese businessmen, intellectuals, researchers, and overseas experts who are living in 20 different European countries.

Ambassador Nguyen Van Thao, Ambassador of Vietnam to Belgium/EU, Head of the Organizing Committee, emphasized the role of Vietnamese people in Europe. The community has made many important contributions throughout the history of national construction and development, since the resistance war against France in 1946, and has maintained such noble values ever since.

The Vietnamese diplomat believed that the overseas Vietnamese community in Europe, with a population of more than 1 million, will continue to make important contributions to strengthening Vietnam-EU cooperation in the new development period in all fields, especially in the 3 pillars, namely Trade-investment, science and technology-innovation, as well as culture-tourism.

Also, Ambassador Nguyen Van Thao expressed his hope that this conference will be an opportunity to motivate the community to join hands for the development of the homeland.

In her opening remarks, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam Nguyen Minh Hang shared the orientation for the discussions. In the trade and investment sector, the Vietnamese community can play the role as a bridge between the locality and EU partners, especially for projects in the country's key fields such as high-speed rail, nuclear power, semiconductor industry, and cybersecurity.

In the science, technology, and innovation sector, which is a potential field to create a new impetus in relations, the EU has strengths and Vietnam has great needs, the Deputy Minister noted. Vietnamese scientists and experts in Europe can help consult, share information,n and experience on academic studies, training, research and development (R&D) model to the delegation from Vietnam.

In terms of culture and tourism, each overseas Vietnamese can act as a cultural "Ambassador" of Vietnam who will introduce and promote Vietnamese culture. Vietnam-owned travel agencies will need the support to organize regular promotional activities, introduce tourism destinations in Vietnam to the European market.

A total of 25 presentations were delivered at the conference, with key topics such as new technology development strategies, nuclear technology, biotechnology, cybersecurity, digital transformation, promoting culture through the Vietnamese language, cuisine, and tourism promotion.

On behalf of the public sector, Nguyen Trung Kien, Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, suggested that the Vietnamese community in Europe continue to practice the tradition of mutual affection, law compliance and active integration and contribute to the development of the host country. It is also important to preserve and promote the national identity and the Vietnamese language, with the enthusiasm, wisdom and strength to the construction and development of the homeland.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese and Vietnamese representative agencies commit to standing shoulder to shoulder with the community, actively work with domestic agencies so that the ideas, connections, and projects from this Conference can be the seeds for the sustainable development of Vietnam in the future.

Also, within the event framework, there were 154 bilateral meetings took place between Vietnamese organizations and associations and domestic delegations. The parties exchanged 26 agreements for cooperation between ministries, sectors and localities with overseas Vietnamese in Europe.
