The circular economy is becoming an inevitable trend and is seen as the green industrial revolution of the 21st century by many countries. Vietnam recognizes it as a key solution to innovate its growth model, improve quality, efficiency, competitiveness, and labor productivity, while also creating new, efficient value-added chains to ensure green growth and sustainable development. The Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress has identified building a circular economy as one of the country's development orientations for 2021 to 2030, with a vision towards 2045.

The Vietnam Circular Economy Forum 2024, themed "From Plan to Action," aims to reflect the overall picture of orientations, policy mechanisms, current status, and innovative solutions to promote circular economy development in Vietnam. It will also address the role of the private sector in implementing the circular economy. At the plenary session, domestic and international partners will discuss the path to the circular economy in Vietnam, opportunities, challenges, necessary resources, and ways to boost it nationwide. This will position Vietnam as a pioneer in ASEAN in establishing a comprehensive institutional and legal framework for the circular economy.

Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Quy Kien highlighted that realizing the national action plan for implementing the circular economy will drive innovation, improve labor productivity, develop good practices, and create a green culture and lifestyle. It will also promote green job creation and develop new value chains.

During the dialogue session “Vietnam: From planning to action,” representatives discussed opportunities, challenges, and resources needed for the circular economy. Ramla Khalidi, UNDP resident representative, emphasized prioritizing eco-design, key industries, effective institutions, and a whole-of-society effort to transition to a circular economy. With these priorities, Vietnam aims to integrate eco-design into policies, meet international standards in key industries, and leverage partnerships to turn vision into action, ensuring people and social equity are at the center of the transition.
