193 new cases reported

50 domestic infections of Covid-19 were added to the national tally from 6 am to 12 pm on June 1. Of the new cases, Bac Giang accounted for the majority with 32, followed by Bac Ninh (9), Lang Son (8), and Long An (1).

89 domestic cases of Covid-19 and one imported case on June 1 afternoon. Among the domestic cases, 47 were found in Bac Giang, 10 in Bac Ninh, 19 in Ho Chi Minh City, 4 in Lang Son, 2 each in Hanoi, Ha Nam, Long An, and one each in Dong Thap, Tra Vinh, and Vinh Phuc provinces.

Another 53 Covid-19 patients were confirmed on the morning of June 2 as the ongoing outbreak continues to loom large across Vietnam. The new cases were recorded in Hanoi and its two neighbors of Bac Giang and Bac Ninh.

Vietnam reports new Covid-19 death

The sub-committee for treatment of the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control on June 1 announced the country's 48th Covid-19 fatality.

The 76-year-old male patient from the northern province of Lang Son tested positive for the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 on May 7 after having close contact with a Covid-19 patient. He was transferred to the Kim Chung facility of the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi's outlying district of Dong Anh for treatment.

He passed away on May 31 evening due to severe lung infection triggered by Covid-19, multi-organ failure, and septic shock.

Provinces tighten control of people entering and exiting

Da Nang: In a meeting on June 1, the Chairman of Da Nang People's Committee Le Trung Chinh directed the province's Department of Transport to strictly control people entering the city at the gateposts. He asked districts to complete random testing. Based on these results, the health sector will come up with a plan for pandemic prevention and control in the coming time. He also required strengthening the handling of violations against pandemic prevention and control.

Can Tho: At the regular online meeting of Can Tho People's Committee, which took place on the afternoon of June 1, Chairman of Can Tho People's Committee Tran Viet Truong said that from 6 pm on June 1, the city activated eight more checkpoints to control people entering the city, bringing the total number of checkpoints to 15.

Hai Duong: In order to ensure the prevention and control of the Covid-19 epidemic, on June 1, Vice Chairman of Hai Duong People's Committee Luu Van asked local authorities to develop a specific plan to strictly control people from pandemic-hit localities entering and exiting Hai Duong province. Accordingly, those who enter Hai Duong from lockdown areas have to self-isolate at home.

Hanoi: Facing the complicated development of the pandemic, on June 1, the Hanoi Center for Disease Control required people returning from Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, and Ho Chi Minh City to make online medical declarations or report directly at health facilities. They also need to self-isolate at home, avoid contacting others, and do not go to crowded places within 14 days after returning home. In case of having any symptoms relating to Covid-19, they have to immediately report to the nearest medical facility for advice, sample collection, and medical isolation.

More donations come to the Covid-19 fight

Nearly VND 3.5 trillion (US$ 151.93 million) has been raised for the fight against Covid-19 via the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) and the Ministry of Health since May 1. The VFF Central Committee on June 1 received donations from many agencies, organizations, and individuals at home and abroad.

Vietnam News Agency contributed VND 450 million (US$ 19,500). The Association of Vietnamese in Macau (China) contributed VND 131.7 million (US$ 5,726), the Ministry of Home Affairs donated VND 456 million (US$ 19,800); and the Ministry of Finance donated VND 1 billion (US$ 43,478).

Meanwhile, the Covid-19 vaccine fund had received more than VND 28 billion (US$ 1,2 million) donated by organizations and individuals, according to the State Treasury of Vietnam.

The fund is set up to receive, manage, and use donations and assistance from domestic and foreign organizations and individuals, along with other legal sources, for Covid-19 vaccine procurement and import, research, and production in the country, and the provision of vaccines for people.

Five weeks into the new wave, Vietnam has recorded as many as 4,549 local infections in 37 of its 63 cities and provinces.

Since the pandemic broke out, the nation has recorded 6,118 local Covid-19 cases including 1,507 imported ones.

Among active patients, 161 have tested negative to coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 once, 91 twice, and 47 thrice. The death toll remained at 47 and the number of recoveries totaled 3,043.
