Covid-19: Vietnam records 7,100 cases, 79,000 recoveries on April 28

Vietnam confirmed 7,116 coronavirus cases on April 28 in 58 cities and provinces, a drop of nearly 1,000 cases compared to the previous day, reported the Ministry of Health. All the new infections were documented in Vietnam, with 5,862 cases diagnosed in the community, said the Ministry of Health in its coronavirus update.

Hanoi capital topped localities, registering 913 infections or eight cases fewer than the previous day. Ho Chi Minh City, the largest and busiest locality in Vietnam, also reported 82 cases, representing an increase of 34 cases.

Localities that saw the number of infections decrease most compared to the previous day were Gia Lai (-245), Dak Lak (-113), and Bac Giang (-107). Meanwhile, localities that saw the number of infections rise most compared to the previous day were Vinh Phuc (+119), Ha Tinh (+102), and Dak Nong (+82).

Covid-19 health declaration suspended to serve SEA Games

The General Department of Preventive Medicine under the Ministry of Health April 28 issued a document on the suspension of the Covid-19 health declaration in service of the upcoming 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games). This is on the basis of a direction by the Prime Minister and the current situation of the pandemic in the country, and applicable at all of Vietnam’s border gates starting from 00:00 on April 27, it said.

Therefore, all people entering Vietnam to participate in the 31st SEA Games will not have to make the Covid-19 health declaration, the general department noted. The biennial regional sports event, featuring 40 sports, is scheduled to take place in Hanoi and 11 nearby localities from May 12 to 23.

It was initially slated for late 2021 but was delayed due to the pandemic.

Over 1 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines were administered to children aged 5-12

More than 1 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines had been administered to children from 5 to under 12 years old in provinces and cities nationwide as of April 27 afternoon, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH). Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long requested localities to accelerate the vaccination coverage as it remains slow at present.

Statistics from the MoH’s Department of Preventive Medicine showed that there are more than 11.8 million children aged from 5 to under 11 in Vietnam. Of these, 3.6 million are subject to a three-month delay of vaccination after contracting Covid-19 and they will get the first shot in July or August.

Covid-19 vaccination for children is one of the important tasks of the health sector in 2022. The country has received 4.6 million Covid-19 vaccine doses donated by Australia for child vaccination. Over 2.3 million doses have been allocated so far.

On average 8,758 cases were recorded in Vietnam daily in the past seven days. The same day, the Ministry of Health announced an additional 79,171 patients recovering from the disease, and just three more deaths in three localities.

As of 6 pm on April 28, Vietnam has confirmed more than 10.6 million infections, ranking 12th out of 227 countries and territories worldwide. Of the total, more than 9.2 million patients have recovered, and 43,037 patients have died of the virus and underlying illnesses.

As many as 213.6 million Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered nationwide.
