Shared commitment in a changing world
In the complicated global context, Italy reaffirms its commitment to the stability of the Indo-Pacific region and, like Vietnam, advocates for the respect of international law and the principles of the UN Charter. Regarding rapid and profound transformations, the Italian diplomat highlighted common interests of both countries.
For example, artificial intelligence offers great opportunities for innovation and development, but also raises complex economic, social, and ethical questions. Climate change continues to jeopardize the delicate equilibrium of our planet and poses a serious threat to the well-being and prosperity of our communities. Rising trade tensions are adding pressure to the global economy.
By advancing academic and technological cooperation, Italy and Vietnam are actively working together to address these pressing challenges. Also, Italy supports Vietnam’s energy transition through the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP). The two countries uphold an open and rules-based multilateral trading system.

A strategic and expanding partnership
There were important meetings held in Hanoi earlier this year, such as the 6th Political Consultations and the 9th Joint Economic Commission, both co-chaired at the deputy ministerial level. They are reaffirmations about the strength and depth of the bilateral ties, the steady progress of the partnership, as well as a shared vision for the future development of both countries.
Italy and Vietnam have also agreed upon a detailed Plan of Action to translate this Partnership into concrete steps and coordinated initiatives.
Ambassador Marco della Seta also wrote that Vietnam earned its position as Italy’s leading trade partner in ASEAN. In 2024, trade between Italy and Vietnam surpassed US$6.9 billion – a 13% increase compared to the previous year.
Regarding cultural and educational exchanges, more and more Vietnamese youths choose Italy as their destination for studying abroad, especially those with scholarships. There is an increasing participation of Vietnamese artists in major cultural events in Italy. A notable example is the invitation extended to architect Trung Mai to exhibit at the Venice Biennale Architettura 2025, said the Italian diplomat.
He also recalled the recent Italy–Vietnam workshop on semiconductors in Hanoi, co-organized by the Embassy of Italy in Hanoi, Vietnam’s National Innovation Centre, and partners. The initiative highlighted the strong potential for joint innovation in a sector of global strategic importance.
Looking ahead: building together for the generations to come
Regarding the deep bond between our people, Ambassador Marco della Seta noted that it is through shared experiences and lasting friendships that the Vietnam–Italy partnership becomes most tangible and enduring. These people-to-people connections not only enrich our present but also invest in the future by shaping new generations who will carry our friendship forward with renewed energy and vision.
This July witnesses the launch of a direct flight between Hanoi and Milan, operated by Vietnam Airlines. This new link will serve as a bridge between our countries, opening new pathways for travel, business, cultural exchange, and mutual discovery.
With the above-mentioned results, Ambassador Marco della Seta is confident that Italy and Vietnam will continue to walk side by side – guided by trust, mutual respect, and shared values – in pursuit of peace and prosperity for the generations to come, and that our partnership stands strong and mature, ready to embrace new and more ambitious goals.
