Vietnam, Laos Hold First Border Defence Friendship Exchange - Photos
The first Vietnam-Laos border defence friendship exchange was held on December 12 in Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri province of Vietnam and Sepon district, Savannakhet province of Laos

Prominent figures in attendance at the event were Vietnamese Minister of National Defence Gen. Phan Van Giang and his Lao counterpart Chansamone Chanyalath.
Within the framework of the first friendship exchange, a wide range of major activities are launched such as saluting sovereignty milestones, planting souvenir trees, conducting joint patrols of both nations' border guards, and offering gifts to Lao and Vietnamese students.
During the meeting, the two defence ministers appreciated the results of the 2nd Defence Policy Dialogue, affirming that this is an important mechanism to unify a common perception on regional security issues of shared concern.
Despite suffering the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, defence cooperation between the two countries has been effectively deployed and achieved positive outcomes.
Minister of National Defence Gen. Phan Van Giang emphasized Vietnam's readiness to share difficulties that Laos is facing in the fight against COVID-19. In its capacity, the Ministry of National Defence of Vietnam is ready to support Laos both in terms of manpower and resources on request.
According to VNS, Giang also expressed thanks to the Lao Ministry of National Defence for coordinating with its Vietnamese counterpart to successfully organise the first national defence border friendship exchange.
He proposed to boost relations between armies of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, including maintaining regular meetings between national defence ministers of the three countries.
Lao minister Chansamone expressed his delights at the first national defence friendship exchange held between the two countries, saying that it would mark a milestone in lifting the security cooperation between the two countries to a new level.
After the talks, the two ministers signed a protocol on search and rescue cooperation and the Việt Nam-Laos national defence cooperation plan in 2022 and witnessed the signing of the agreement on border guard cooperation between the two countries.
Immediately after the meeting, the two ministers signed a number of important documents to further step up bilateral defence cooperation and cooperation between border guards of the two countries in the coming time.
The organization of the first Vietnam-Laos border defence friendship exchange comes from the direction of the two Parties and States on building a Vietnam-Laos borderline of peace, friendship and stability and cooperation for common development.
The exchange program is also part of the defence diplomacy activities launched by the two defence ministries in 2021.

On October 2 in Hanoi, the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO), in cooperation with the US Embassy in Vietnam, held a seminar entitled “30 Years of Vietnam - United States Relations: Achievements and Prospects.” This was the fourth event in a series of activities organized by VUFO to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
On September 30, in Hanoi, a seminar titled "Culture, Education, Art: Connecting Heritage and Future" took place. Held within the framework of the first Viet Nam - Russia People's Forum by the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations in coordination with the Committee for External Relations of Saint-Petersburg and the Fund on the promotion of the development of Viet Nam-Russia cooperation "Tradition and Friendship", the seminar affirmed the importance of cultural diplomacy and people-to-people exchange.
On September 30 in Hanoi, within the framework of the First Vietnam-Russia People’s Forum, the seminar “Science, Technology, and Healthcare: New Driver for Cooperation” brought together numerous scholars, policymakers, and experts from both countries. The discussions focused on key areas that could serve as new drivers in promoting the Vietnam–Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
On October 1, at a meeting with the delegation of the Russian Federation attending the First Vietnam-Russia People’s Forum, Politburo Member, Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Do Van Chien stated that the Forum carried profound political and humanitarian significance. He stressed that it marked a new direction in people-to-people diplomacy, contributing to the strengthening of the “people’s front” and deepening the friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
After two days of working in Hanoi, the First Vietnam-Russia People’s Forum concluded on October 1. In his closing remarks, Nguyen Quoc Hung, Director of the Fund for the Promotion of Russia-Vietnam Cooperation “Tradition and Friendship” and a member of the Organizing Committee, assessed that the Forum achieved success in three key dimensions: realizing President Ho Chi Minh’s principle of “winning people’s hearts through diplomacy”; inheriting the achievements of people-to-people diplomacy between the two countries; and adopting a modern, innovative approach that creates fresh momentum for Vietnam-Russia people-to-people relations.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of El Salvador to Vietnam Ruben Omar Orozco Burgos presented two El Salvadoran artworks to the Vietnamese Women’s Museum and the Wellspring Hanoi International Bilingual High School as symbols of the connection the two countries of Vietnam and El Salvador.
On September 30 in Hanoi, a ceremony marking the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Russian Federation and the inauguration of the First Vietnam-Russia People’s Forum took place. Member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam Tran Hong Ha attended and delivered remarks at the event.
