Vietnam, Laos Hold First Border Defence Friendship Exchange - Photos
The first Vietnam-Laos border defence friendship exchange was held on December 12 in Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri province of Vietnam and Sepon district, Savannakhet province of Laos

Prominent figures in attendance at the event were Vietnamese Minister of National Defence Gen. Phan Van Giang and his Lao counterpart Chansamone Chanyalath.
Within the framework of the first friendship exchange, a wide range of major activities are launched such as saluting sovereignty milestones, planting souvenir trees, conducting joint patrols of both nations' border guards, and offering gifts to Lao and Vietnamese students.
During the meeting, the two defence ministers appreciated the results of the 2nd Defence Policy Dialogue, affirming that this is an important mechanism to unify a common perception on regional security issues of shared concern.
Despite suffering the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, defence cooperation between the two countries has been effectively deployed and achieved positive outcomes.
Minister of National Defence Gen. Phan Van Giang emphasized Vietnam's readiness to share difficulties that Laos is facing in the fight against COVID-19. In its capacity, the Ministry of National Defence of Vietnam is ready to support Laos both in terms of manpower and resources on request.
According to VNS, Giang also expressed thanks to the Lao Ministry of National Defence for coordinating with its Vietnamese counterpart to successfully organise the first national defence border friendship exchange.
He proposed to boost relations between armies of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, including maintaining regular meetings between national defence ministers of the three countries.
Lao minister Chansamone expressed his delights at the first national defence friendship exchange held between the two countries, saying that it would mark a milestone in lifting the security cooperation between the two countries to a new level.
After the talks, the two ministers signed a protocol on search and rescue cooperation and the Việt Nam-Laos national defence cooperation plan in 2022 and witnessed the signing of the agreement on border guard cooperation between the two countries.
Immediately after the meeting, the two ministers signed a number of important documents to further step up bilateral defence cooperation and cooperation between border guards of the two countries in the coming time.
The organization of the first Vietnam-Laos border defence friendship exchange comes from the direction of the two Parties and States on building a Vietnam-Laos borderline of peace, friendship and stability and cooperation for common development.
The exchange program is also part of the defence diplomacy activities launched by the two defence ministries in 2021.

On June 26th, the Steering Committee for the Search, Collection, and Identification of Martyrs' Remains in Quang Tri Province (the Steering Committee) launched its 2026-2027 dry season mission amidst a growing scarcity of information regarding martyrs' burial sites. Local authorities will mobilize various resources, intensify data collection, collect biological samples, digitize information, and expand domestic and international cooperation to enhance the effectiveness of the search and identification of martyrs' remains.
At the ceremony commemorating the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Chile, leaders of Da Nang City called on the Embassy, trade promotion agencies, and Chilean businesses to strengthen connections with the city’s localities, organizations, and enterprises. They emphasized the importance of fostering cooperation in areas where both sides share strengths and mutual interests.
On July 14, at the Office of the Ta Keo Administrative Court in Cambodia, the Task Forces of An Giang and Ta Keo held a signing ceremony to officially hand over and receive the remains of 14 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts, collected during the 2025 - 2026 dry season.
On the afternoon of July 13, Mai Xuan Liem, Standing Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Thanh Hoa, welcomed and held talks with a delegation from Saint Petersburg, Russian Federation, led by Vyacheslav Gennadyevich Kalganov, Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Saint Petersburg. On July 13 in Dili, the capital of Timor-Leste, Vietnamese Chargé d’Affaires Pham Binh Dam met with Deputy Prime Minister Francisco Kalbuadi Lay, who also serves as Minister for Coordinating Economic Affairs and Minister of Tourism and Environment. They discussed measures to enhance bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors and agreed to promote the implementation of practical cooperation programs in the near future.
During his tenure in Vietnam, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Vietnam Choi Young Sam has made significant contributions to promoting friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea. Through his support for high-level visits and efforts to strengthen connections among localities, businesses, and people of the two countries, the Ambassador has helped deepen the Vietnam-Republic of Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership while expanding cooperation in people-to-people exchanges. In recognition of these contributions, the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations presented him with the “For Peace and Friendship Among Nations” Medal at a ceremony held in Hanoi on July 14.
Before concluding his tenure, Vietnamese Ambassador to Algeria Tran Quoc Khanh paid a farewell visit and held talks with leaders of the ruling National Liberation Front (FLN) on July 13 in Algiers. Both sides reaffirmed their determination to further consolidate the traditional friendship, strengthen cooperation between the two Parties, and expand collaboration across various fields.
On July 13 in Hanoi, the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO), in coordination with the Embassy of Nicaragua in Viet Nam, held a Friendship Gathering to commemorate the 47th anniversary of the triumph of the Sandinista People's Revolution (July 19, 1979 - July 19, 2026). This marked the first time the two agencies had jointly organized such a commemorative event in Hanoi, contributing to the strengthening of the traditional friendship between the two countries, the expansion of people-to-people exchanges, and the promotion of practical bilateral cooperation.
For the 2026-2031 tenure, the Vietnam-Russia Friendship Association of Bac Ninh aims to recruite at least 70 new members. The Vietnam-Russia Friendship Association at the central level has proposed the establishment of additional units in Bac Ninh prior to the reorganization.
