Addressing the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil Bui Van Nghi recalled the historical significance of the August Revolution and the event on September 2, 1945, when President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence at Ba Dinh Square, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. This marked a decisive turning point in the nation’s history, ushering in an era of independence and freedom and affirming the right of every nation, regardless of its size, to determine its own path of development.

The Ambassador emphasized that over the past 81 years, the Vietnamese people have overcome war, division, encirclement, embargoes, natural disasters and profound changes in the international situation; remained steadfast in safeguarding independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity; while gradually rebuilding and developing the country...

Regarding Vietnam-Brazil relations, Ambassador Bui Van Nghi affirmed that Brazil holds an increasingly important position in Vietnam’s foreign policy. More than 37 years after the establishment of diplomatic relations, bilateral ties have entered a new stage of development following their elevation to a Strategic Partnership in November 2024. Brazil is currently Vietnam’s largest trading partner in South America. In the first seven months of 2026, bilateral trade exceeded US$5.49 billion, an increase of nearly 23% compared with the same period last year. The Ambassador said that the goal of raising two-way trade to US$15 billion by 2030, while ambitious, is entirely achievable if both sides take decisive steps to remove barriers, expand market access and create more favorable conditions for the business communities.

Vietnam wishes to work with Brazil to deepen the Strategic Partnership in areas where the two sides have strengths and directly complementary needs, such as high-tech agriculture and food security; renewable energy, biofuels and the green transition; science and technology, innovation, artificial intelligence, semiconductors and digital transformation; processing industries and sustainable mining; education and training; national defense and security; culture, sports, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.

The Ambassador affirmed that Vietnam stands ready to serve as a bridge for Brazil to strengthen relations with ASEAN, the Asia-Pacific and the Indian Ocean regions, while regarding Brazil as a key partner in expanding Vietnam’s cooperation with South America and Latin America.

Speaking on behalf of the Brazilian Government, Ambassador Susan Kleebank, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, conveyed Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira’s warm congratulations to the Government and people of Vietnam on the occasion of National Day. She praised the resilience and determination of the Vietnamese people, as well as the country’s journey toward becoming one of the world’s dynamic economies and a respected voice on international issues.

According to Ambassador Susan Kleebank, although Brazil and Vietnam are approximately 17,000 kilometers apart, the two countries are growing increasingly close. Together, they produce nearly half of the coffee consumed worldwide, share a passion for football and have many similarities in their views on peace, sustainable development and the building of a fairer and more representative international order. She said that the tangible results of bilateral relations are becoming increasingly visible in people’s daily lives, as Brazilian beef appears on Vietnamese dining tables and Vietnamese tilapia is sold in Brazilian supermarkets. The launch of negotiations on a Preferential Trade Agreement between MERCOSUR and Vietnam is expected to create another bridge to promote trade, investment and people-to-people exchanges between South America and Southeast Asia.

On the sidelines of the event, delegates visited a photo exhibition featuring President Ho Chi Minh and Vietnam’s revolutionary journey, while exploring Vietnam’s agricultural products, processed foods and typical OCOP products.
