Vietnam Peace Committee Attends Peace Conference Commemorating 80th Anniversary of Anti-fascist Victory in China

The conference, held under the theme “Remember History, Preserve Peace”, aimed to look back at lessons from past wars to cherish the value of peace and discuss methods to maintain global peace and stability, promote international solidarity and cooperation for the shared prosperity of all nations.

The Conference's opening session, which took place on the morning of September 26, 2025, was chaired by Peng Qinghua, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, President of the Chinese People's Association for Peace and Disarmament. The event had the participation of more than 150 delegates, including 120 international delegates from 60 countries, who are countries leaders and former leaders, representatives of diplomatic missions, political organizations, research institutes, peace organizations, many of which are members of the World Peace Council.
The Chinese delegates included representatives of the leadership of the International Liaison Department of the Communist Party of China, representatives of central agencies leaders, local authorities and leaders of member organizations of the Chinese People's Association for Peace and Disarmament.
Notable figures included Ulrich Maurer, Former President of the Swiss Confederation; Abhisit Vejjajiva, Former Prime Minister of Thailand; Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar, Former Interim Prime Minister of Pakistan; Sergey Nikolaevich Baburin, Former Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma, President of the Association of International Peace Foundations; and Iraklis Tsavdaridis, representing the World Peace Council.

Speaking at the Opening Session, Peng Qinghua emphasized the significance, historical role and great stature of the Chinese Army and People's resistance war against Japanese fascism. He affirmed that China has made an important contribution to the global people's victory over fascism, ending World War II, establishing the United Nations and other global institutions, contributing to shaping the era of globalization and prosperous development over the past 80 years.
Given the current rapidly changing, increasingly complex and unpredictable world situation, it is more crucial than ever for countries, regardless of size or strength, to contribute to efforts to protect peace and the common prosperity of mankind. Reiterating the speech of General Secretary and President of China, Xi Jinping, at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Conference on the Global Governance Initiative (GGI), which highlighted five principles, including sovereign equality; respect for international law; steadfast multilateralism, people-centered approach; and actions for substantial results - he stated that GGI demonstrates China's efforts and responsibility for world peace, as a member of the United Nations Security Council and a major country among the group of developing countries.
In their speeches, international delegates highly valued the Conference's significance, regarding it as an opportunity to recall past lessons, exchange experiences, and take joint actions for global peace, stability and development, passing the torch of peace to the younger generation. Many delegates expressed their agreement and appreciation for China's initiation of GGI amid the challenging situation faced by the United Nations and multilateralism.

In his remark at the “Peace Heritage” Conference, Chairman of the Vietnam Peace Committee Uong Chu Luu congratulated and appreciated the Chinese People's Association for Peace and Disarmament for organizing the Peace Conference, which plays an important role in connecting peace organizations and movements worldwide, inspiring and educating the younger generation about protecting the heritage of peace.
He affirmed that Vietnam consistently pursues an independent, self-reliant, diversified, and multilateral foreign policy, being a friend, a reliable partner, and an active, responsible member of the international community; while adhering to the "Four No's" defense policy aimed at creating and maintaining a peaceful, stable environment to focus on national development, continuously improving people's lives, and actively contributing to efforts for regional and global peace and prosperity.
In the current context of the serious threat to world peace, it is more crucial than ever for countries to respect and uphold the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, including the fundamental principles of respecting independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, non-interference in internal affairs, resolving disputes by peaceful means in accordance with international law, refraining from threats or use of force, and engaging in equal, mutually beneficial cooperation.
Discussing the role of people-to-people diplomacy, Uong Chu Luu stated that people's organizations of each country play an important role in promoting understanding, solidarity, dialogue, enhancing trust and cooperation among peoples, creating a positive social foundation, contributing to protecting, preserving and promoting the world's heritage of peace. In the coming time, the Vietnam Peace Committee will continue to promote the good traditional cooperation with the Chinese People's Association for Peace and Disarmament, together with other progressive people's organizations and partners in the world in pursuit of this goal.
