Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Quy Kien had a working session with local authorities on May 10 to discuss about the event as well as the Action Month for the Environment and World Environment Day 2019.
Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Duong Thanh Trung said the organisation of the aforesaid events will contribute to promoting the dissemination of the Party and State’s policies and laws on environmental protection and sea and island defence.
The preparation for the events has been being carried out on progress, he said, adding that the province will map out more specific plans to ensure their success.
At the working session, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment approved a draft plan for organising the events, which are due to take place in late May and early June 2019.
Various activities will be held such as a launching ceremony in response to World Oceans Day and Environment Day, a workshop on investment for Vietnam sea brand, and a photo exhibition on environmental protection and economic development in the Mekong Delta.
Other events include an international forum on the appropriate use of sea and island resources, a ceremony to kick off the construction of a waste treatment plant, a workshop on promoting the role of war veterans in raising public awareness of environmental protection.
Bac Lieu province will also organise mangrove afforestation to prevent coastal erosion and saltwater intrusion, mitigate the impacts of climate change, and protect the environment.
Community-based environment activities such as designing, building and decorating playgrounds for children in new resettlement areas arranged for households living along protective forests and canals will be held as well as a youth programme to prevent plastic waste./.
