Addressing the celebration on behalf of the Vietnamese Government and people, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Anh Tuan extended his warmest congratulations to the governments and peoples of African countries, African ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions, as well as all African friends currently living, studying and working in Vietnam.

Reviewing historical milestones, the Deputy Minister emphasized that Vietnam and African nations share a deeply rooted relationship, laid down by President Ho Chi Minh and African revolutionaries as early as the 1920s. Building on this tradition of solidarity, the two sides have consistently stood side by side through historic milestones, from past struggles for national independence to today’s efforts for national construction and development.

Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan noted that 2025 marked several important milestones in Vietnam-Africa friendship and cooperation, as it was the first time that Vietnam’s State President, National Assembly Chairman, and Prime Minister all paid visits to Africa. Economically, two-way trade turnover in 2025 recorded an impressive growth of 27 percent compared to 2024, while an increasing number of major Vietnamese enterprises have expressed interest in making long-term investments in the continent.

Affirming that Africa is the “cradle of humanity” and is rising strongly to become an important driver of the global economy, Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan stressed that Vietnam always seeks to deepen multilateral cooperation with Africa at bilateral, multilateral, and inter-regional levels. Vietnam stands ready to accompany African countries and make practical contributions to the implementation of the African Union’s Agenda 2063. With the achievements and experience gained during 40 years of Doi Moi (Renewal), Vietnam is prepared and capable of expanding cooperation with African countries in such areas as agriculture, food security, science and technology, telecommunications, and digital transformation.

The Deputy Minister also affirmed that Vietnam has continued to serve as a bridge fostering stronger and more effective connectivity between Asia, Southeast Asia, and Africa. He expressed confidence that bilateral relations would continue to grow robustly in the spirit of “cooperation for mutual development and mutual benefit.”

Representing African countries, Moroccan Ambassador Jamale Chouaibi, Head of the Group of African Ambassadors, emphasized that Africa Day commemorates the establishment of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) in 1963, honoring the spirit of solidarity while also reminding all parties of their shared responsibility to build a peaceful and prosperous Africa.

Highlighting bilateral relations, Ambassador Jamale Chouaibi affirmed that the partnership between Africa and Vietnam is built on mutual respect and holds tremendous potential. Vietnam’s remarkable achievements in poverty reduction, industrial development, and agricultural transformation offer valuable lessons of practical significance for many African countries. Over the past two decades, Vietnam has shared its experience with African nations through technical assistance programs, particularly in rice cultivation, aquaculture, and irrigation management.

Regarding people-to-people exchanges, the Ambassador said Vietnam has been actively nurturing these ties through scholarship programs for African students at Vietnam Maritime University and various other educational institutions. Young African students are integrating into Vietnamese life and culture, thereby further strengthening the partnership between the two sides.

These exchanges are also reflected in the growing number of African tourists visiting Vietnam, as well as Vietnamese travelers exploring the diversity of African countries.

As part of the event, with the aim of promoting people-to-people exchanges and mutual understanding, eight African diplomatic missions in Hanoi - Algeria, Angola, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Mozambique, Nigeria, and South Africa - created a vibrant cultural space showcasing the continent’s diversity through traditional cuisine, beverages, and music.
