The event was attended by Chargé D'affaires of Thailand Embassy in Vietnam Morakot Janemathukorn, Director of International Cooperation Department under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Phuong Hoa, Deputy Director of Department of Southeast Asia, South Asia and South Pacific Ocean under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Vu Van Minh and Vice Chairman of Hanoi Union of Friendship Organizations Tran Thi Phuong, etc.

The “Vietnam - Thailand Friendship Village” program is a part of the activities commemorating the 45th anniversary of establishing Vietnam-Thailand diplomatic relations to promote friendship through learning about culture, customs and drawing lessons from each other's successes and good models. Besides, it opens up opportunities to beef up cooperation in sustainable development with the application of Thailand's Sufficient Economic Philosophy for the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SEP for SDG).

Speaking at the event, Chargé D'affaires of the Thailand Embassy in Vietnam Morakot Janemathukorn said “the program Vietnam - Thailand Friendship Village demonstrates the friendship between the two countries. It is only a part of the activities celebrating the 45 years anniversary of establishing Vietnam-Thailand diplomatic ties. If the Covid-19 situation is put under control, the Thai Embassy in Hanoi, the Thai Delegation, the Thai enterprise community in Vietnam, Thailand - Vietnam Friendship Association, etc along with Vietnamese partners will jointly hold other activities tthis year.

Deputy Director of Department of Southeast Asia, South Asia and South Pacific Ocean under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Vu Van Minh said “Thailand is among top 10 foreign investors in Vietnam, with a total investment capital of over $12 billion. It is also Vietnam’s largest trading partner in ASEAN. The bilateral trade turnover has continuously increased by over 9% during the past 5 years, reaching $17 billion, and is expected to reach $25 billion in the coming years. Connecting by air, road, and sea between the two countries has increasingly been strengthened and become a key factor for the countries’ tourism industries to develop. Thailand is also among top 10 customer markets of Vietnamese tourism, exchanging visitors between two sides reaching 1.5 million in 2019”.

"Cooperation between localities of Vietnam and Thailand has been enhanced. There have been 17 pairs of provinces and cities of the two countries signing the cooperation agreements. More than 100,000 Vietnamese people are currently living in Thailand who made contributions to beefing up the friendship between the two sides”, Minh emphasized.

On this occasion, Vietnam also extended its thanks to the Thai Embassy in Vietnam and Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) for their support for Thai Nguyen province in the implementation of the Project “Applying Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP) into the Sustainable Community Development" from 2019 to 2021.
