Vietnam will battle it out in a round robin format against Cuba, Indonesia, Peru, Tunisia, and Pakistan in Group J, with the optimal goal of gaining promotion to the second pision in 2019.
The week-long competition, to be held in Halmstad, promises to provide a good opportunity for the Vietnamese players to learn from the experience of world-level opponents, contributing to honing their skills to improve their performances in the future.
As scheduled, Vietnam will play their opener against Peru on April 29, before hosting Indonesia and Cuba on April 30, and taking on Tunisia and Pakistan on May 1 and 2, respectively.
Following the tournament, the national team, consisting of seven players and two trainers, will head for a training course in Hungary in preparation for the National Table Tennis Championships in late May.
According to Phan Anh Tuan, head of the table tennis department under the General Department of Sports and Physical Training, the players’ performances at the upcoming National Championships will be decisive in selecting the members of the Vietnamese team that will participate in the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia this August.
