Vietnam, UN Strengthen Cooperation in Peacekeeping Operations

	Vietnam Reinforces Global Role with UNCITRAL Re-election

This weekend, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, met with UN Deputy Secretary-General Jean-Pierre Lacroix to discuss peacekeeping cooperation between Vietnam and the United Nations.

At the meeting, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang thanked the United Nations and Deputy Secretary General Lacroix personally for always supporting and assisting Vietnam in effectively participating in peacekeeping activities over the past 10 years.

Reviewing the achievements and outstanding contributions of the Vietnamese peacekeeping force, the Ambassador emphasized that this is a high-priority area in the Vietnam-United Nations partnership, making a practical contribution to international peace and security. He also affirmed Vietnam is ready to send more forces when requested by the United Nations, including the army and police, in which priority is given to increasing the proportion of female peacekeeping officers and soldiers, and will continue to run for relevant positions at the United Nations Secretariat.

On this occasion, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang requested that the United Nations agencies and functional units continue to support Vietnam in training and enhancing the capacity of peacekeeping military and police forces to meet requirements and contribute more effectively to United Nations peacekeeping activities in the new context.

Deputy Secretary-General Jean-Pierre Lacroix stressed that peacekeeping operations will continue to be an important tool of the United Nations to address global security challenges in a volatile world. He highly appreciated Vietnam's recent support and participation in UN peacekeeping operations.

The Deputy Secretary-General affirmed his support and readiness to assist Vietnam in building capacity and contributing more to peacekeeping activities, especially ensuring that Vietnam is ready to deploy its first peacekeeping police unit when requested by the United Nations.

Lacroix also encouraged Vietnam to run for senior positions at the United Nations Secretariat, as well as at peacekeeping missions and welcomed Vietnam's commitments in implementing relevant goals and targets of the United Nations, especially increasing the proportion of female soldiers participating in peacekeeping activities.
