The consensus was reached by Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi during their phone conversation on July 10.

The Government Portal reported that Pham suggested the Indian side help Vietnam access vaccine sources via different channels and as soon as possible, cooperate with Vietnam in the transfer of production technology, and facilitate vaccine supply to the Southeast Asian country.

Modi, for his part, welcomed Chinh’s suggestions, saying he stands ready to cooperate closely with Vietnam over the issues.

They also agreed to promote the role of the existing consultation and dialogue mechanisms while expanding cooperation in defence industry, UN-led peacekeeping operations, and responding to traditional and non-traditional security challenges.

The PMs pledged to double efforts to soon realize the trade goal of $15 billion USD through enhancing trade promotion and reducing technical barriers.

Chinh called on Indian investors to boost investment in manufacturing, processing, information and communication technology, and renewable energy in Vietnam.

The pair committed to strengthening mutual support and coordination at regional and international forums, especially the UN as both countries are current non-permanent members of the UN Security Council (UNSC).

Both underlined the significance of maintaining peace, stability, security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation, settling disputes peacefully on the basis of international law, particularly the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (1982 UNCLOS).

Earlier, spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang affirmed that Vietnam has kept a close watch on the Covid-19 situation in India and is willing to support the Government and people during these hard times.

We believe that with efforts by the Indian Government, the situation will soon be controlled and become stable,” Hang was cited by Viet Nam News as saying.

Vietnam has been the fourth wave of Covid-19, also the most challenge that the country has encountered.

The country recorded 461 new local Covid-19 cases on July 10 night, raising the day's tally to an all-time high of 1,844.

July 10 also saw the highest number of localities recording cases, 31.

Ho Chi Minh City, the new epicenter of the ongoing fourth coronavirus wave, recorded 200 new cases on July 10 night, raising its tally of the day to 1,300, the highest number in a day since the disease broke out, followed by 1,229 on July 9.

Of the city’s new cases, 147 are already in quarantine and isolated areas while the remaining 53 are being contact traced.

Deputy Health Minister Nguyen Truong Son told a meeting earlier on the day that the number of Covid-19 infections in the city will continue to increase in the coming days and it could record 10,000 infections in the next five days.

Since April 27 when the new wave hit Vietnam, 24,326 infections have been recorded in 58 of the nation's 63 cities and provinces, with HCMC accounting for the most at 11,615, VnExpress said.

This is the largest-ever vaccination campaign which indicates the determination of the Party, State and people of Vietnam in containing and repelling the pandemic, protecting the public’s health, and restoring normalcy, in order to realize the goals set out by the 13th National Party Congress, Chinh said at the launching ceremony./.
