At the event, representatives from the Vietnamese Embassy in the US highlighted cuisine as a powerful channel of cultural diplomacy, helping to present Vietnam’s image, people, and traditions to the international community. By promoting vegetarian cuisine, Vietnam seeks to share its humanistic values and environmentally friendly lifestyle.
The centerpiece of the program was a hands-on cooking session led by chef Anna Le, founder of the Asian culinary brand Ahna Gourmet. With more than 25 years of culinary experience, Anna Le demonstrated techniques and shared secrets for preparing Vietnamese vegetarian dishes using simple yet flavorful ingredients. Guests not only enjoyed the food but also took part in the cooking process, gaining insight into the art of ingredient combination in Vietnamese cuisine.
Speaking to a VNA reporter, Le emphasized that Vietnamese vegetarian cuisine is in no way inferior to its non-vegetarian counterpart. Traditional dishes, she explained, can be transformed into delicious and healthy vegetarian versions. Today’s vegetarian offerings are far more innovative than before, no longer limited to boiled vegetables or tofu, but also recreating classics such as bun rieu, pho, and bun bo Hue in vegetarian form. Through these dishes, Vietnam aims to showcase to international friends a culinary tradition rich in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian diversity.
