VUFO, UN Women Work to Promote Female Empowerment

Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga, President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) received and worked with Elisa Fernandez Saenz, Country Representative of UN Women in Vietnam about women empowerment on Oct. 5. The meeting was also attended by representatives from the Country Office of UN Women in Vietnam and VUFO's Multilateral Affairs Department.
Elisa Ferrnadez Saenz introduced to Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga the goals and activities of the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) Agenda and the plan to implement its activities in Southeast Asia and Vietnam. The country representative highly appreciated Vietnam's contributions to UN activities and said that Vietnam has great potential for cooperation in promoting women's empowerment.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga introduced VUFO's organizational structure and its member organizations, including the Vietnam Peace and Development Foundation and the Vietnam Peace Committee. Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga affirmed that cooperation between the VUFO member organizations UN agencies in Vietnam, including UN Women, would be strengthened to promote women's empowerment towards sustainable development.
WPS was adopted by the United Nations Security Council through Resolution 1325 (UNSCR 1325) in an effort to unite women and their perspectives on peace and security issues. WPS focuses on four core pillars: Prevention, Participation, Protection, Relief and Recovery.
