Dang Van Ghen, a farmer living in HCMC’s suburban district of Cu Chi, is the owner of a unique pink buffalo. Ghen bought the buffalo in 2001. The 30-year-old buffalo now weighs one ton. Some say that its pink skin maybe because of albinism which causes abnormality related to pigmentation. Aside from the distinctive color, the pink buffalo is as strong as a normal buffalo.

Mr. Ghen’s buffalo has been famous and requested to be present at inauguration ceremonies of some events. Many believe that the pink buffalo may bring them good luck, according to Tien Phong News.

The buffalo got great attention every time it appears in public. Last Lunar New Year, Ghen took his buffalo to an event in Ho Chi Minh City, making people passing by super excited.

"This buffalo is 35 years old, belonging to Thailand origin. Its ancestor then moved to Cambodia and then "landed" in Tay Ninh. In 2001, my father bought it for VND 12 million (USD 521)," said Dang Van Ghen. Some might think the pink skin is caused by Albino but Ghen confirms that the buffalo was born pink.

Ghen said his pink buffalo was strong enough to pull a ton of grass each day, enough to feed 200 cows in his hometown. The buffalo often follows Ghen to the field to work, then follows him home when the workday is over. After years of living with its owner, the buffalo never for once gets lost.

Recently, some wealthy people offer Ghen a great bunch of money, even up to VND 1 billion (USD 43,500) to buy his buffalo yet Ghen turns down all their offers. According to him, the buffalo is a member of his family. When his father died seven months ago, the loyal buffalo kneed down for three whole days before his coffin. Ghen shared: "No matter how much they offer, I will not sell my buffalo. It has become a companion to me. My family would be incomplete if I have to say goodbye to it."
