On July 24, Nghe An CDC sent a dispatch to the WHO office in Vietnam requesting support for supplies and chemicals to respond to disease prevention and control during the rainy and flood season.

Immediately after receiving the WHO's support, Nghe An CDC sent three working groups to support and instruct post-flood environmental treatment and disease prevention and control in the flooded areas.

99,700 Aquatabs and 300 clean water bags were provided to the severely affected Medical Centers by Nghe An CDC.

Much equipment and supplies at medical facilities in western Nghe An were severely damaged.

Regarding Tuong Duong Medical Center, whose machinery, equipment, and supplies were severely damaged due to flooding, the Nghe An CDC dispatched three additional chemical sprayers and assigned two technical staff members to provide support.

Nghe An Department of Health requested Ky Son Medical Center to urgently establish a field medical station.

"No dangerous disease outbreaks have occurred following the flood. Active efforts are underway to prevent and control diseases such as pink eye, viral fever, dengue fever, and diarrhea. The areas that have just experienced widespread flooding are remote regions with complex terrain. Many areas are mainly populated by ethnic minorities with limited understanding of the Vietnamese language, posing many difficulties in communication and guidance on disease prevention and control," said the Director of Nghe An CDC.

To date, Nghe An CDC has distributed 99,700 Aquatabs tablets and 300 clean water bags to local medical centers severely affected by floods (excluded regular distributions).

According to Dr. Chu Trong Trang, Nghe An CDC has developed a response plan in case an outbreak is detected, as well as plans to control, contain, and suppress epidemics to prevent the outbreak and widespread of diseases.

Following the destruction of My Ly Commune Health Station due to floodwaters, Nghe An Department of Health requested the Ky Son Medical Center to urgently set up a field health station to provide residents with health checks and medical treatment. Medicines, essential equipment, and necessary supplies were also sent to the field health station to support its operation.

Prior to the historic flooding, large numbers of dead pigs were discarded into rivers and irrigation canals. To prevent post-flood disease outbreaks, the Nghe An Department of Health also requested the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment to enhance livestock management and ensure the proper handling of animal carcasses.
