WHO also warned that the current funding shortfall could directly affect key activities, including epidemiological surveillance, contact tracing and community awareness, all of which are considered crucial to containing the outbreak.

According to figures released by the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo on the night of July 15, the number of confirmed Ebola cases has risen to 2,011, including 754 deaths. Health authorities said the current outbreak is spreading faster than any previous Ebola outbreak recorded in the country.

In this context, WHO called on international donors to expedite the disbursement of pledged assistance to ensure sufficient resources for the response. The organization stressed that the fight against Ebola is a shared responsibility of the international community and cannot be borne by a single country alone.

In Ituri Province, the epicentre of the Ebola outbreak in eastern DRC, strikes by healthcare workers continue to spread as more personnel have stopped working in protest over unpaid salaries, delayed allowance payments and difficult working conditions. The situation has raised concerns about further disruptions to efforts to contain the outbreak. Authorities in Ituri Province said they had met with representatives of the striking workers and were seeking solutions to resolve the situation.
