The Prime Minister noted that Vietnam is implementing a wide range of policies to ensure and improve public health, always considering the people’s well-being its highest priority. He shared that in recent weeks, Vietnam has been hit by successive historic storms and floods, resulting in severe loss of life and property, and heightening the risk of post-flood disease outbreaks. He expressed hope that the WHO would continue to support Vietnam in responding to and preventing disease risks arising in the aftermath of natural disasters.
Expressing his sympathy for Vietnam, the WHO Director-General extended his deepest condolences over the losses caused by the recent storms and floods. He thanked the Vietnamese Government for its strong commitment to the health sector and to improving public healthcare, and voiced admiration for Vietnam’s decisive leadership and timely policies in combating COVID-19. Regarding the risk of disease outbreaks following the floods, the Director-General said the WHO has an emergency response fund and stands ready to mobilize resources from this fund to support Viet Nam as soon as possible.
He affirmed that the WHO would dispatch experts and immediately work with the Vietnamese Mission in Geneva and the Ministry of Health to follow up on the matters discussed with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
