According to WVIV, clean water and safe sanitation not only help prevent diseases but also contribute to improving education quality, increasing labor productivity, and expanding economic development opportunities - key factors in improving the quality of life for children and communities. However, the lack of clean water and poor sanitation conditions remain major causes of illness in many remote and mountainous areas, requiring comprehensive approaches that combine infrastructure investment, enhanced community participation, and the promotion of sustainable behavior change.

Recent floods and landslides once again highlight the urgent need to ensure clean water availability as natural disasters become increasingly extreme. Vo Nhu Son Tra, a representative from Nam Tra My Commune in Da Nang, shared: “Natural disasters and landslides make water sources scarce. Local people and schools urgently need stable, safe water sources.” These immediate needs further reinforce the determination of stakeholders to advance clean water solutions suited to local conditions.

Since 1997, WVIV has implemented many projects to improve clean water and sanitation services. In 2024 alone, nearly 22,000 people gained access to clean water. Over the past six years, more than 52,000 households have installed handwashing facilities, 32,000 households built improved latrines, and more than 21,000 children have been able to drink clean water at school every day. These improvements have brought clear changes to community life. Mat, a resident of Quang Tri, shared: “Since we have had clean water, the children in my family get sick less often. During the dry season, every household has enough water.”

Speaking at the launching event, Doseba Sinay, Country Director of WVIV, emphasized that the 2026–2030 program will be a key driver in efforts to build healthy and sustainable communities. With an investment plan of more than 343 billion VND (13 million USD), WVIV aims to support tens of thousands of people in gaining access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene, prioritizing areas severely affected by climate change, natural disasters, and poverty.

Although Viet Nam has made significant progress in clean water and sanitation, millions of people still lack basic latrines or handwashing facilities. In addition, natural disasters continue to put pressure on infrastructure systems, degrade water quality, and increase the risk of disease outbreaks. In this context, World Vision’s 2026-2030 program is expected to become an important action framework for scaling up effective models and strengthening cooperation between the Government, communities, and businesses in the water and sanitation sector.

The program launch in Da Nang not only marks the beginning of the implementation of a new strategy but also demonstrates the commitment of stakeholders in addressing clean water and sanitation challenges. With strong commitments and the collaboration of partners, local authorities, and communities, the “blue thread” of clean water will continue to reach every home and school, bringing health, hope, and dignity to all - especially children.
