	Prisoners Express Gratitude for Government Amnesty
	Nearly 14,000 People Granted Amnesty on the 80th National Day Anniversary

The Office of the President, in coordination with the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Supreme People's Court, recently held a press conference to announce the President’s 2026 amnesty decision.

According to the National Assembly's Electronic Information Portal, the press conference was co-chaired by Senior Lieutenant General Le Van Tuyen, Deputy Minister of Public Security; Can Dinh Tai, Deputy Head of the Office of the President; Nguyen Van Tien, Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court; and Dang Hoang Giang, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

At the event, Can Dinh Tai announced Decision No. 751/QD-CTN dated May 26, 2026, issued by the President regarding the 2026 amnesty. Under the decision, 9,950 prisoners serving prison sentences who satisfy the legal requirements are granted amnesty. The decision takes effect on June 1, 2026.

Speaking at the press conference, Can Dinh Tai emphasized that amnesty is an event of profound political, legal, and humanitarian significance, reflecting both the strictness of the law and Vietnam’s longstanding tradition of compassion. The policy ensures the maintenance of legal order while providing an opportunity for inmates who have demonstrated genuine progress during their rehabilitation to return to their families and communities.

According to Can Dinh Tai, experience over many years shows that the majority of individuals granted amnesty have quickly stabilized their lives, complied with the law, actively participated in work and production activities, and become productive members of society. This demonstrates the effectiveness of prisoner education and rehabilitation efforts as well as the humanitarian values embodied in Vietnamese law.

He noted that the implementation of the 2026 amnesty was conducted in a serious, objective, transparent, and lawful manner. All applications underwent rigorous review to ensure accuracy and fairness.

Based on the recommendation of the Amnesty Advisory Council, General Secretary and President To Lam signed the decision on May 26, 2026, granting amnesty to 9,950 eligible prisoners in accordance with legal regulations.

The Deputy Head of the Office of the President also called on government agencies at all levels, local authorities, businesses, social organizations, and the public to continue supporting those granted amnesty in reintegrating into society, stabilizing their lives, and reducing the risk of reoffending.

During the press conference, Senior Lieutenant General Le Van Tuyen answered questions from the media regarding the amnesty review process and community reintegration efforts. The Deputy Minister of Public Security affirmed that the implementation of the President’s amnesty decision was carried out in a transparent, objective, and accurate manner. All cases proposed for amnesty were reviewed and unanimously approved by members of the Amnesty Advisory Council before being submitted to the President for final consideration.

Regarding reintegration efforts, Le Van Tuyen said that ministries, sectors, local authorities, and grassroots police forces have implemented various measures to help former inmates access business and production loans, vocational training, and employment opportunities. These efforts contribute to stabilizing their lives and preventing recidivism.
