Providing information about the 9th National Congress of Delegates of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union for the 2026-2031 term, Bui Thi Thom, Vice President of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union, emphasized that the 9th Congress is being held at a time when the country is entering a new era. The entire Party, people, and armed forces are actively implementing the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress and strategic resolutions of the Politburo on socio-economic development. In this context, all levels of the Farmers’ Union and the Vietnamese peasantry are striving to carry out activities contributing to the successful fulfillment of the targets and tasks set out in these important resolutions.

Although only halfway through the term, and amid the restructuring of the political system from the central to grassroots levels toward a leaner, more efficient, and effective apparatus, the Vietnam Farmers’ Union has operated under a new model directly affiliated with the Vietnam Fatherland Front in association with the two-tier local government model. Nevertheless, the 8th Congress term of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union (2023-2028) has achieved many positive results. Specifically, the Union’s work and farmers’ movements have continued to record important achievements and breakthroughs, with 16 out of 18 targets meeting or exceeding the plan, including many challenging targets surpassing the goals set for the term.

At the same time, the restructuring and consolidation of the organizational apparatus and officials at all levels of the Union have been implemented decisively and synchronously. Difficulties and obstacles arising during implementation have been promptly identified so that recommendations and proposals could be submitted to competent authorities for consideration and resolution.

The content and methods of the Union’s activities have undergone many innovative and creative changes, shifting from mobilization to guidance, support, and companionship. Farmers’ movements have been organized effectively and practically, combining both breadth and depth with a focus on quality. The Union’s core role in building the peasantry has been increasingly affirmed, while the quality of members, political awareness, production and business skills of farmers have improved, and the material and spiritual lives of farmers have been significantly enhanced.

The Union’s organizational development, activities, and the active contributions of members and farmers have made important contributions to the implementation of socio-economic development goals, particularly in agricultural development and new-style rural area construction.

At the press conference, Nguyen Thi Viet Ha, Deputy Head of the Farmers’ Affairs Department of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union, provided information on the key contents of the 9th National Congress of Delegates of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union for the 2026-2031 term.

Accordingly, from June 7-8, 2026, at the Vietnam National Convention Center in Hanoi, the 9th National Congress of Delegates of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union for the 2026-2031 term will be solemnly held under the theme “Solidarity - Democracy - Breakthrough - Cooperation - Development.”

Delegates attending the Congress will focus on discussing and providing opinions on important draft documents of the Congress, including: the Political Report of the 8th Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union submitted to the Congress; the draft Review Report of the 8th Central Executive Committee; the draft amended and supplemented Charter of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union; and the action program for implementing the Congress Resolution.

Along with giving opinions, the Congress will discuss and decide on orientations, objectives, targets, and tasks for the entire term, and will elect the Executive Committee for the 2026-2031 term.

Regarding orientation, the 9th National Congress of Delegates of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union identified the direction for the five-year term (2026-2031) as follows: building a strong Vietnam Farmers’ Union; promoting the role of farmers as the subjects and central actors in agricultural development, rural economic development, and new-style rural area construction; and inspiring aspirations for a prosperous, strong, civilized, and happy nation in the new era.

Regarding objectives, the Congress will discuss and adopt five major goals and 11 key targets. The Congress also identified six tasks and solutions for the Union’s work and farmers’ movements during the 2026-2031 term, including four breakthrough tasks.
