A Quiet Sapa in Ripening Rice Season

The photo was taken by Duong Quoc Hieu, 29, a photographer living and working in Sa Pa on August 19. It captures a bird-eye view of Y Linh Ho village, Muong Hoa commune. Under the first rays of sunshine at dawn, the terraced fields look gorgeous.

Peaceful houses in the middle of terraced fields. Y Linh Ho village is located about 3 km from Lao Chai village. The area is surrounded by Hoang Lien Son mountain range and is home to the ethnic H'Mong and Dao communities.

From mid-August to early September is considered the most beautiful time of Sa Pa. At this time of the year, the winding terraced fields in Muong Hoa start to ripen. Tourists from across Vietnam and around the world flock to Sapa to admire such a beautiful scene and enjoy the cool, comfortable weather.

Visitors can also get a blast with the vibrancy of Sapa city center – an ideal place to relax and learn about local culture. Of the many terraced rice fields in Sapa, those at Y Linh Ho is Hieu’s most favorite.

“I feel small in front of the majestic nature. I hope my photos will somehow bring the great Mother Nature and happiness to other people during this straining Covid-19 time,” Hieu said.

To take the photo series, Hieu has come to Muong Thanh many times. The ripening rice on Muong Thanh’s terraced fields will be harvested until mid-September. Those visiting Sapa in early September can enjoy the rice ripening season in Lao Chai – Ta Van.
