Digital travel platform Agoda has just announced a list of Asia's top mountainous and small town destinations, opening a journey away from the hustle and bustle city to find a land of peace.

In this year's ranking, Sapa rose to 6th place on the continent, affirming its increasingly spreading attraction on the international tourism map.

As a mountainous town famous for its rice terraces and ethnic villages, Sa Pa captivates tourists with its signature local culture, and the spectacular natural scenery of the Hoang Lien Son Range seen from the top of the "roof of Indochina" Fansipan Mountain - the highest mountain in Vietnam.

The number of searches in Sa Pa increased by 21%, proving the growing attractiveness of this destination. Peaceful mountain destinations, especially the highland town of Sa Pa, are increasingly becoming an ideal stop for the local culture and the pristine natural beauty.

Except for the rainy and stormy season (from June to August), the local brilliant nature goes with the change of seasons: plum and peach blossoms in the mountains and forests in spring, while summer is filled green rice field hidden in the morning mist, or brilliant yellow throughout the valley of the terrace fields in autumn. In winter, Sapa can be covered with thick clouds, even with snow - a rare sight in the tropical climate that makes this phenomenon even more thrilling.

The local markets in the mountainous region have become one of the reasons to attract domestic and international visitors. The combination of magnificent nature and unique culture has made Sapa one of the most attractive mountainous destinations in Asia.

The ranking is compiled from Agoda data, featuring the number of accommodation searches from February 15 to August 15, 2025, in destinations with a population of less than 50,000 people in 8 Asian markets. The top 3 positions belong to Cameron Highlands (Malaysia), Khao Yai (Thailand) and Puncak (Indonesia) respectively. Fujikawaguchiko (Japan), Kenting (Taiwan-China), Sapa (Vietnam), Munnar (India) and Pyeongchang-gun (South Korea) are also in the top 8.
