According to the Hanoi Department of Tourism, the Vietnamese capital welcomed an estimated 3.09 million visitors in April 2026, up 13.3% year-on-year. Of the total, international arrivals reached approximately 780,000, marking an increase of 6.9% compared to the same period last year.
Tourism revenue for the month was estimated at VND 12.65 trillion, representing an 11.2% rise year-on-year.
Notably, in the first four months of 2026, Hanoi received approximately 12.14 million visitors, up 20.9% compared to the same period in 2025. Total tourism revenue exceeded VND 50.8 trillion, an increase of 22.8% year-on-year.
The figures are seen as a positive signal of the capital’s robust recovery and sustained growth in the tourism sector, particularly as Hanoi develops breakthrough strategies aimed at attracting more than 12 million international visitors annually by 2030.
Alongside the rise in visitor numbers, the city’s accommodation and tourism service infrastructure has continued to expand and improve in quality. Hanoi currently has 3,761 accommodation establishments offering more than 71,000 rooms, including 66 hotels and serviced apartment complexes rated from one to five stars.

Average room occupancy in April reached nearly 70%, up by more than three percentage points compared to the same period last year.
In addition, 61 certified food service, shopping, and entertainment establishments are operating effectively, contributing to enhanced visitor experiences across the city.
The travel sector has also maintained a large operational scale, with nearly 2,000 international travel agencies, more than 500 domestic tour operators, and nearly 10,000 active tour guides.
These figures underscore Hanoi’s growing tourism service capacity and its ability to meet the increasingly diverse demands of both domestic and international travelers.
In April 2026, state management of tourism continued to be strengthened through the implementation of several key plans and projects. Among the highlights was the development of a tourism strategy featuring breakthrough solutions aimed at attracting international visitors, alongside programs promoting agricultural and rural tourism in various localities.
The city also stepped up destination surveys and connectivity initiatives, gradually developing new tourism products linked to traditional craft villages and cultural experiences.
Promotional and marketing activities were carried out in a coordinated manner. At the Vietnam International Travel Mart, Hanoi’s exhibition booth, themed “Green Tourism - Bringing Every Moment to Life,” attracted approximately 90,000 visitors, helping promote the capital’s image to both domestic and international travelers.
Hanoi has also actively expanded international cooperation by participating in tourism forums and conferences to explore new markets and enhance its position as an attractive destination.
Human resource development and digital transformation in the tourism sector have remained priorities. Training courses and professional development programs for tour guides and heritage site managers have been organized regularly, contributing to improved service quality.
The city is also developing digital transformation assessment criteria and smart tourism initiatives aimed at improving management efficiency and visitor experience.
The Hanoi Department of Tourism has issued directives to ensure service quality, security, and safety during peak travel periods, particularly during the Hung Kings' Commemoration Day holiday and the Reunification Day–International Workers’ Day holiday from April 30 to May 1.
For May 2026, Hanoi’s tourism sector has identified several priority tasks, including finalizing tourism development projects, formulating tourism promotion plans for the 2027-2030 period, and promoting rural tourism in tandem with new rural development programs.
At the same time, surveys will be conducted to propose recognition of additional national tourism zones, including Ba Vì National Park, Perfume Pagoda, the Hoan Kiem Lake and surrounding area, as well as Hanoi’s Old Quarter.
