According to the Vietnamese Embassy in Bulgaria, Minister Georgiev congratulated Ambassador Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet on assuming her post at a particularly meaningful time in the two countries’ relations. The Minister affirmed that Bulgaria has always regarded Vietnam as one of its most important partners in the Asia-Pacific region. Building on a foundation of traditional friendship and recent positive developments, he stressed that Vietnam and Bulgaria possess all the conditions necessary to upgrade their relationship in line with the long-term vision and political determination of their senior leaders.

Minister Georgiev emphasized that there remains considerable room for cooperation, especially in the context of the ongoing restructuring of global supply chains and countries’ growing focus on enhancing strategic autonomy. He highly valued the nearly 30% increase in bilateral trade turnover in 2024, considering it a positive signal of market potential in both countries. On that basis, the two sides should continue to effectively leverage the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) to boost investment flows, expand markets, and strengthen economic connectivity. The Minister also proposed that the two sides actively coordinate to review the possibility of signing cooperation documents and to put forward priority orientations, with a view to developing bilateral relations in a more substantive and effective manner.
Acknowledging the longstanding and fruitful history of people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries, supported by the contributions of over 30,000 Vietnamese who have lived, studied, and worked in Bulgaria, Minister Georgiev stated that Bulgaria prioritizes facilitating visa policies to support economic, investment, tourism, and people-to-people activities with Vietnam.
For her part, Ambassador Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet affirmed that Vietnam attaches great importance to and wishes to further promote comprehensive cooperation with Bulgaria. On this occasion, the Ambassador cordially invited Minister Georgiev and the leadership of the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to attend the celebration of the 80th National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Bulgaria diplomatic relations, scheduled to take place in September 2025 in the capital Sofia.
The two sides agreed to continue enhancing delegation exchanges at all levels, to soon resume the Deputy Foreign Minister-level Political Consultation mechanism, and to coordinate preparations for the 25th Session of the Vietnam-Bulgaria Intergovernmental Committee on Economic, Trade, and Scientific–Technical Cooperation in 2026.
The meeting took place in a sincere, open, and constructive atmosphere, reflecting the political will and goodwill of both sides to further advance Vietnam-Bulgaria relations in a comprehensive, substantive, and effective manner in the time ahead.
