The event will take place in the northern province of Quang Ninh’s Ha Long city from August 23 – 27, cited VOV. This is an annual contest held by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU). It is considered a reputed playground for students passionate about robotics from the region.

This year, 13 teams from 12 countries and territories will compete including two from Vietnam.

The theme is "Harvest Day", inspired by terraced rice cultivation. Accordingly, robots must perform tasks that simulate the rice cultivation process, from sowing seeds to harvesting, within a set period of time. Besides official matches, cultural exchanges and sightseeing tours of Ha Long Bay will also be held within the framework of the competition.

According to the announcement by representatives of Quang Ninh province, the event will help popularize the image of the host, showing the hospitality of the local people. It not only introduces international friends to Vietnamese culture but also affirms Vietnam’s position in the field of technology.

For those watching at home, the event will be broadcast live on Vietnam Television Channel 2 (VTV2) and livestreamed on the social media platform Facebook of VTV2 “Quality of life” on August 25.

Initiated in 2002, ABU Robocon aims to create friendships among young people with similar interests who will lead their countries in the 21st century, as well as help advance engineering and broadcasting technologies in the region. At the ABU Robocon 2023 in Phnom Penh, Japan was the winner of the grand prix of the competition, followed by Hong Kong (China). Vietnam and China finished third at the event, ABU reported.
